Still living guys, stuck in the bush a few extra days as the low clouds set in on us.[emoji3061] Just got back to basecamp with a smidgen of wifi. Hopefully fly back to Anchorage today/tonight.......but we have been told that for 3 days. [emoji848] It has been in the 50s since I arrived (until today), considered warm by these folks......and also the critters as nothing was responding to calls.[emoji849] I did miss a camp wolf at 100 yards last week with a borrowed gun. Then a few days later I missed a decent moose with the guides gun at 200 yards over a beaver pond....ouch!!!. Yep, I ain't worth a squat slinging lead....lol!!![emoji5] All in all, it started to get somewhat better. With lots of hours looking through my Swaro's we began seeing a few moose and grizzly waaaaay up high. Too dang high for this bayou boys liking honestly. My guide spotted a moose about a half mile out on another mountain ridge and gave a few calls to see if he would respond. By golly, he came in on a rope in less than 20 minutes!!!! [emoji2962] At 60 yards I was set and ready as I could see the brush below us moving. I was extremely confident and was totally focused to release my 1st arrow into a moose!!![emoji1018] Low & behold, he hung up at 30 yards in thick brush below me. I could see his antlers and the side of his face. He was wind checking and getting nervous. All I needed was two steps and he was mine.

After a loooong 5 minutes he never gave me a shot. The wind tickled his nose and he was outta there....he actually bolted......as best a moose can.[emoji3061] The guide was heartbroken. I was thrilled!!! The opportunity was soooo close and every sense was on high alert. We did everything right which gave me new found confidence. Heck, my hand was trembling following that encounter......and that's bowhunting to me![emoji106]

The next 2 days were warm and slow. Still zero responses from bulls in unit 21. We decided to float the Bownanza River but we knew it was horribly shallow. Started out good as it is absolutely beautiful but within a mile we were walking the boat over rocks and sand bars. We ended up maybe 4 miles upriver with zero sign of moose but it looked inviting none the less. Good adventure but we struck out on the Bonanza as the bulls just are not there ......yet.

After laying in brush for about 20 minutes. A bull decided to quietly sneak in....yes, snuck in to about 60 yards b4 we ever saw or heard it. Incredibly stealthy beasts.[emoji2962] Approximately 28 - 31 yard shot with a clean pass thru. The 685 grain Grizzly Stik worked to perfection....as usual!
