I tried to cipher this math problem in my head

Why? Cause I want to keep my brain sharp.. I haven't done much math lately and I'm rusty.

How many round trips to work before engine fails?
Will it fail on way home?
    How far from home?
Engine fails @ 1 million rpm.
    It's 43 miles to work & 43 miles home.
Engine idles @ 500 rpm. Avgs 7 minutes idling each before driving.
70 mph is 2,000 RPM ( less rpm more time)
80 mph is 2,300 RPM ( more rpm less)

RPM is a measurement of speed not distance.

          Is it a Toyota?
If so add a million rpms to your failure number

I'd like to see the tachometer that has 1,000,000 on it.

The engine fails after 1 million RPM???? Must be a Tecumseh

Is this the new common core math that I've been hearing about?

It will fail at 1 million rpm. Doesn't matter how many times you go back and forth if less than 1 million rpm at any one moment. Now if it fails at 1 million revolutions, that is a different problem entirely.

RPM is a measurement of the revolutions the engine is making, not speed. It could be wound up, running @ 3,000 rpm's and going zero mph.....as long as it's not in gear.

Turn the 70mph into time it takes to get to 43 miles and from there, it can be converted to RPM.

Revolutions the engine is making is still a speed measurement. Not the vehicles speed, the speed at which the crankshaft is turning.
