I started this island a loooong time ago. Anyhow, we had a double trunk cedar tree in our backyard that was beginning to split in half at the base that needed removing. We milled some of it to make the top for our island. The previous island was 24” x 32”. The new one measures 34” x 60”. Had to put the island base in the house and paint it in place and put the finish on the top out in the garage. I put 3 coats of Waterloo Finish/Sealer on it to give it a semi-gloss finish. According to the folks at Waterloo, I should be able to shower on top of this island and never have a problem with water as long its not scratched through or damaged. I picked this finish because if it does get scratched or damaged, I can lightly sand the area and another coat to fox the troubled area. For storage, I wanted to have enough space to fit all the kitchen do-dads without taking up cabinet space and it worked! Barely!!
