Sitting in stand for the first time this year. I have 1 day to hunt and the pigs have been unreal, so most likely outcome is either nothing or some pork. Itís the rut so you never know deer wise.

Buckle up! So far itís cool and really humid.

What did you do to change that? Burn it to the ground? LOL

There is an amazing amount of bird life here. Makes even slow mornings entertaining. That and this blind houses itís fair share of yellow jackets.

@Landrover I would be perfectly happy with either of these.

But Iíll probably end up like this:

Dad has a little button buck in front of him and I just rattled with some grunts and a snort wheeze.

I can hear a small deer grunting back but no sightings yet. Grunt was not from a mature animal.

Back at it! Had to do some work around the place and check on the bees. Dad didnít have a suit on but was going to ďstand at a safe distanceĒ and he ended up getting lit up! Got stung on the head and right by the eye and in the soft spot under his arm. Ouch!!!!

Sure hope the cloud cover stays. Our bow/pistol stands suck in swirling and south winds, so everyone is packing rifles.

Dad is hunting with a Kliengulther 25-06 that we inherited from my uncle who was murdered while fishing beside his church by some crack heads. My cousin then inherited it and he recently passed away of a heart attack at 39 y/o and my aunt then passed it to our family. So far Dad is 100% on animals with it and it will be a family heirloom for many generations. Hopefully we get another one for the Arnold clan tonight.

Good luck. I have hunted north of Honey Grove. Your area looks like some of the same terrain.

Is hwy 34 going to stay in place but become a bridge across the lake or will there be a new north-south road put in somewhere else? Pretty crazy fannin is getting 2 new lakes built relatively in the same time period

My understanding is 2 bridges allowing 34 to run north/south and 1550 is going to be rerouted a bit so it stays north of the lake.

Iím curious what it does to our hunting. I will be less than a mile from the new lake but I imaging as the lake fills itís going to displace and push deer out to me for that first year. So many new restaurants and stuff popping up in Bonham too. Good to see.

Never looked for a lease but I imagine they are pricey given the proximity to DFW. The deer density is low and getting lower with the allowed harvest of does which is unfortunate since the swine population is growing and growing.

I almost wished it would go like Grayson/Collin - to archery only. The genetics for the deer around me are great. Big main frames with a tendency to throw off trash- but getting them to 5-6 y/o is difficult.

I'm surprised that they opened up the does as well. I grew up in Leonard and we had to drive up to the border to get into the deer back then, not being able to shoot does in the general season slowed things way down but it did make for some interesting sits in the woods. When I was 17 I almost drove off the road outside of Wolfe City one day when I saw a doe and fawn walking across a pasture a few miles outside of town, it was the first time I had seen a deer south of Highway 82. Thanks for sharing, your pics brought back a lot of good memories!!

yes lease prices are outrageous. there are great genetics in Fannin county but way too many people who who refuse to let a deer mature before harvesting. I too wish Fannin would go bow only due to declining numbers

The antler restrictions made a world of difference when they went in, I just wish they hadnít opened the doe harvest up like they did. Most of the county really isnít ready for it from a population standpoint. I know they had a lot of pressure to do it, but numbers are abysmally low in many parts of the county.
