I made range trip last week to fine tune a .22 LR Ruger 10/22 bull barrel

    Results were disappointing

.22 LR has a curved trajectory

    Appx 3" high at 50yds
    Zeroed at 75yds
    3" low at 100yds

This does not meet my expectations for accuracy

Went to Basspro and bought the Savage 93R17 GV in .17hmr

GV is the varmint bull barrel. Good deal at $265 with their accutrigger

    Ruger 10/22 has a Leupold 3x9
Savage has a Burris Fullfied 3x9

    Comparable setups

    Returned to same range

Within minutes I was shooting 10 shot dime size groups at 50yds and 100yds

I was skeptical. Now I am a believer in .17 hmr

HMR stands for Hornady Magnum Rimfire

Firing pin makes an overstated mark on the case

    Very noticeable

    Virtually no recoil at all

Accutrigger removes the blame it on the trigger excuse

Weird feeling. Freaky accuracy and no recoil

    Doesn't seem fair

    Absolute joy to shoot

You can head shoot a squirrel at 100yds with a 14 grain bullet at 3000 fps

    Gotta love it

Ordering a nice stock from Boyd's The standard stock is quite plain. My only negative but that's what you get with the GV bull barrel model.

    Highly recommend

    My first Savage rifle. Impressive.

    Had to share.

You can't change physics. Did you expect a 22 to shoot flatter than that?

Hornady doesn't make a 14gr 17hmr round. And they dang sure don't make one that goes 3000fps

Just curious.....who is shooting either of those rifles past 30-40 yards??? Past 75 seems like a long stretch on a rabbit or squirrel

As you should be. Great round. But comparing a 22LR to a 17hmr is like comparing a 30-30 to a 300win mag.

If you consider yourself a great shot with a rifle

                      This will challenge you

Because with no recoil and no crappy trigger

It's hard to blame misses on anyone but the shooter

                        Yes sir

                        You are correct

                        2550 fps at the muzzle

1901 fps at 100yds at point of impact

                        Can .22 LR compare?

                        Like others have commented

                        It's like comparing 30

Savage Model 597 22LR. Zeroes at 75 yards. Multiple kills out to 100 to 125 yards with a 3x9 on top. Rabbit, neutra, etc. 22 LR all the way.

                            30-30 to 300 win mag

                            No comparison

The .22 can be capable of good 100 yd. groups also. You need to use ammo that starts slower than the speed of sound. If you use high velocity ammo, it goes transonic around 75 yds, disrupting the accuracy at 100. And, your findings are on the money, most high velocity ammo sighted at 50, will drop 5 to 6 inches at 100. I have several .22's I enjoy shooting, and none will shoot good groops at 100 with high vel ammo, including a couple that will do 1/4" at 50.

I dont own a 17, but have shot one a lot, I prefer the .22 mag, but he 17 is a lot of fun to shoot.
