Baffin Bay/Corpus Christi Fishing Bait Question?

Any kind of baits that are usually pretty good for around that area this time of year? I’ll be fishing Baffin next week and possible right there at Padre Island/Corpus Christi Bay.

I’ve been out of salt water fishing for a long time and am just starting to get back into it. Going to be fishing out of a boat and doing some wading.

Hard to beat a gambler flappin shad, If you have to downsize your bait try a lil Jon.

Down south lures in darker colors. Work great in that area. As well as 3” doa cal Shad. Gold spoons. Top waters at first light. Unless you wanna go live bait like croaker or shrimp.

I like a sand eel in bone/ chartreuse if water is clear. If it's off color I like pumpkin seed /chartreuse. If you start early try a bone skitter walk on or around the spoil islands west of the ICW across Rocky Slough.

Barking monkeys. They love 'em down there all summer.

They beat the tar out of Gamblers down there, even in the dead of winter.

This is the right answer for what the fish have been eating in Baffin. Purple gambler and a clear or red lil John. Both with 1/16 or 1/8 oz head. Bounce it slow off the bottom has been silly for us lately.

I’m sure they’ll eat those too. You might be able to find a top water bite early but as the heat comes on switch over to plastics for more consistent bite.

Been doing really well with lighter colored DSLs with a medium speed straight reel in. They have been hammering it.

Will they hit a watermelon red baby brush hog[emoji23]?

I grew up on the coast salt water fishing but haven’t fished much since 2002 when I moved to Arizona.

When I lived on Baffin, I did great with a Zoom Swimming Fluke and a Slayer Jig Head

I love throwing waker baits and crawfish plastics for redfish.
