    Hog Euro - Degreasing Help

Shot a big boar several months ago. I finally got around to cleaning it up a few weeks ago. I used the same process as I do for deer. The deer skulls I have done have turned out okay, and good enough to display in garage. The hog skull still stinks to high heaven and is still very yellowish. Some of the yellow will go away once I apply the bleaching agent. The smell is what is concerning at this point.

Best way to degrease a pig skull?

I believe some people use Dawn dish soap

I've cleaned many pig skulls, and always soak them in acetone for several days to degrease before whitening with peroxide. Put them in a container with a lid so the acetone doesn't evaporate. I re-use the same acetone over and over until it gets really yellow from the dissolved fat/grease.

I want to start by saying I am in no way affiliated with this person, but I think he has some the best videos for doing euro mounts and videos in general. Was the first one I subscribed to.

He also seems to be a pretty solid dude.

Here are a few of my favorites. The first two are euro mount related, the third one I just thought was well done and liked how he went about it.

Pig skulls have tons of grease in them. dawn dish soap (without bleach) in warm water. change water daily until you don't see grease floating in the water. That is when it Is fully degreased.

Interesting thing about Dawn---we have a grease trap in our church kitchen which was causing problems. The plumber (and the company rep) both said Dawn is the best for doing whatever it does (can't remember the word) to grease.

Acetone, that's the only way to get the grease out of a pig skull. Soak its for about a week, maybe more depending on the size. Dawn dish soap won't cut it. Just watch that "degreasing" video by Whitebone Creations on YouTube.

I simmer them in borax, and original dawn soap. Works really well.

I use clear dawn dish soap with a aquarium heater set on high, I like the water between 80-90 degrees it speeds up the process.
