Last few years they've been doing a good job of posting their hunt maps a week or 2 prior to each hunt category on Facebook. I'm gonna be checking regularly but if I don't see anything a week out, I'm going to follow Kactus's lead and contact them directly.

I don't remember a hunt that I didn't have a shot, and i've been going for 20 years now as a youth hunter and adult, if we came home empty handed it wasn't the wma, it was either my fathers snoring that he denies or my fudge up.

Well, truth be told. Our groups success rate was greater at Aransas this year than it was at Chap last year. 5 arrows flew at each place. Truth...

It’s not looking like it will get cold enough south by then to knock down the browse but if we can catch a decent cold front around then it may kick off some cruising and pre rut.

Saw a couple photos of the youth hunt on Chaps Facebook page. One photo showed the background in one of the compartments and WOW, was it really green. May be a tough hunt if it doesn't cool down by December and get the bucks moving. Regardless just an awesome place to hunt and looking forward to it.

Yeah, exactly. It snowed while he hunted the Chap last year.

Yall don't worry about the weather. Its wasted emotion, nothing you can do about it anyways!

Green or not, corn or no corn. Use your hunting skills, those bucks should be full blown nutcases over some poon and ready to brawl about it. Thats what makes Chap so special!

Exactly man Iím not stressing at all! All Iíve heard is that there are big deer every where so I honestly donít care what pasture we get either. If we can find the doe we will find the bucks.

I’ve seen them hot and heavy and I’ve seen it dead. I’ve also hunted it with baiting and without, I’ll take not green, cold and corn every time. Gonna be a good time regardless

What are yíall thinking as far as set ups?
Iím probably going to take some military netting and make some wicked brush blinds. Iím also taking a short tripod for either my pops or me

Brush or pit blind is best option but I will take a pop up just in case weather is bad and it’s nicer for all day sits because you can move some.

Be there for the second archery hunt, taking everything I got, tree stand, ground blind and short tripod. Yes, tree stand, a swivel limb works great on mesquite trees.

My 2015 Chap buck. Itís an awesome place. I was very happy with my deer when I took him, but had a little buyerís remorse when I had a perfect 150ish 10-point in range for 30 minutes two days later.

Does anyone know if there is a curfew for generators on the camper section. I heard from a friend who went a few years ago they shut them down at 10 PM. I am going to bring my wife but need 24 hour creature comforts for her.

This, but just use curtisy and try to set generators away from other campers so we can all sleep.

Chap is still very green. Weather was in the 40-50's this weekend with fog and mist on Sunday. We hunted the Southside of North Jay stand 336. Get out and walk, there are better places to hunt than supplied Chap stands but you have to put in effort.

If you bring a couple pieced of plywood or something to block the sound it really helps.

Also, we always take a big tarp or two and plenty of rope and bunjees to wrap around poles of the covered areas to block the north wind/rain. This will make a huge difference at your camp in comfortability when cooking at night or lounging. Itll also help keep your gear dryer, corn etc

Man it’s gonna be a long next two weeks. Hard freeze in cotulla today so it should knock back a lot of the browse. Hoping for a cold front that week and we will be set.

I took my son to the doe hunt last weekend at the Chap. We were assigned the SE part of the Ano Nuevo pasture. We hunted one of the youth blinds (No. 316) Saturday afternoon. We corned the road in both directions. Nothing came to the corn. We did see 2 coyotes and a bobcat. Sunday morning we went back to 316. It was cold and wet. At first light we seen a nice buck cross at 40 yards, big body did not stop just walked across sendero. About 8:30 we walked some of the roads in our pasture looking for crossings/sign. Found a few crossings that were well used. We did see some deer crossing the road while walking. They were 300-500 yards away. To far for my son to shoot. We left Sunday afternoon. We had a great time and meet some great folks. I will be hunting the Dec 4-7 archery hunt.
