    SeaContainer Cabin Ideas

I was searching through past threads and most were just buying and selling containers. I was hoping to start up a new thread for posting advice and pics for completed projects and ideas for converting shipping/sea containers into cabins. I have ran into several people in the past year or so that were wanting to do this or had started a project. I am interested in doing one as well. If anyone on the GS has completed a project like this or has a buddy etc.. that has, please feel free to post on here. It would be nice to see what all has been done and to get some good ideas of what to do and not to do. Thanks!!

I haven't had the need to do anything with a shipping container yet, but it looks like it could be a fun project. Maybe if I inherit the three my Dad has, then I can reference back to this thread for cool ideas!

      Thanks.

Here are the pictures from my container build. I sold it with the land, but I would do it again. X Caliber did the spray foam, AC's, Door, Electrical (with my layout and design) and we did the rest.

            Container town

My DIY project. Not difficult if you create a plan

            2" closed with batt insulation = r32

Stays cold with 1 ac in hot of summer and warm in winter with 1 ceramic heater

            40" high container

Out of the main office in Graham. They have yards all over the state.

I didn't frame out the walls as I didn't want to give up a couple of inches inside, so we just painted the spray foam a light blue and saved the space.

One thing I would do different is infloor heating. The container floor would get ice cold in the mornings during the season!

That is awesome that one unit kept the and 1 ceramic heater heats and cools it well. What were the container demensions? 40'Lx8'Wx9.5'H??

Not sure on thickness, but I bet it was around 1" thick so not crazy. We had two AC's that did cool and heat. I think one would have been fine, but I wanted to have one in my bedroom so if I had the door closed, my other guest still had exposure to an AC. It would cool down and heat up quickly.

Yes on heating and cooling. Insulation is key + shade structure is added bonus

Dimensions are correct for a 40' High container

Also have a 3.5 foot front porch inside the locking doors that I can take off muddy boots, etc before entering. Works great.

Front and back door create a shotgun house breeze when cooler weather.

All cut seams for the back door are on the raised edge side of metal and caulked to prevent leaks. Top of door has a metal plate installed into the drip line of the door and caulked to prevent leakage in the folded metal section on container. Learned this from a guy that makes custom container units.

Carpet squares with rubber backing for flooring keeps it a bit warmer.
