They are good to eat I shot and ate one. The guide told me when cleaning it you have to be careful because the hair has oils that can taint the meat.

Did not eat any while in Africa but I would eat it in a heartbeat. Black Wildebeest was the best meat of all the plains game meat I had there.

That's a pretty young Water Buck so may be good to eat. Older ones are not that great.

I shot a big old ram and it was given to the trackers to make biltong. As others have stated, even small amounts of hair on the meat apparently taint it. Doesn’t make sense to me, but the guys that make their living around the critters don’t eat them or sell their meat.

I’m not a fan of it at all. Definitely pass it on to the neighbors. Cool bonus animal though.

That’s bad ***. Haven’t heard much great about the meat. Still cool though. Congrats!

I second this. I was shocked when we ate some grilled tenderloin. Eiland was a close second.

Congrats on a cool kill. Most protein will taste fine if processed appropriately, I am sure it will be great.

In any case we never ate it and frankly we ate just about everything at some point or another! [emoji38] I’m sure it will be as tasty as most other game meat..let us know!

This was my experience in Africa also.

We are some in Africa and it was excellent.

They do have a funny smell/oil coating as you have found out by now.
