    Gene Howe Turkey hunt

Any recommendations for a pasture. Never been to this area. looks good but not sure. Looking at the persiman pasture

Never hunted turkey at the Howe, but did hunt deer there a few years ago. In the fall all of the birds were on the west side (north of the FM road and west of the county road). But, that most likely changes during the spring when the groups break up and the hens are nesting. Don't remember the pasture names but the pasture in the middle on the south side of the road (east of the check station) seems to have a great mix of roosting sites, nesting cover, and water (turkey love to roost near water). That would be my choice I think.

Pick a pasture on the river. Lots of big cottonwoods and cedars along the river. Mostly just grass and rolling hills up on the north side.

The Persimmon pasture does have some hardwoods, but no water to speak of. The Persimmon Creek you see on the map is dry. As mentioned, the other side of FM2266 would likely be better for turkey. It has the hardwoods, open meadows, and the Canadian River.
