Here’s a story about the family who made the candy. I started reading it, and could almost taste the candy all over again.

As a kid my parents took my family to the Monterrey House on Rittenhouse St in Northeast Houston. My mom would always warn us not to immediately dig though the chips to get the candy out of the basket.

That stuff was what I lived for as a kid. We went there once or twice a week for years.

I lived on Aggie Ln. (yes, that’s the real name of the street) right near the Melrose Park golf course. It was a short ride to Monterrey House for dinner.

That instilled my love for Mexican food that remains today.

I wish I had a piece of that candy right now.

Lived in the neighborhood as well, went there at least once a week!! Did not realize so many TBHer's were from the area

My wife’s grandparents were owners of several of the Monterey House locations. There is still one in Beaumont as I recall.

I liked the candy but I really liked the queso tostada. We wore out the Monterey House in Dickinson and Ponchos in Pasadena.

I hung out with my cousins on Sandydale, Connorvale, Orange Grove. Then ended up policing those same streets.

All the time. There is a new one on BW8 and Mesa Rd... just east of 59. Their Taco Pizza is a classic and I go there about once a month for some of that greatness.

Any of you Humble area guys remember the short-lived Duff's Smorgasbord. We used to go after church sometimes.
