EDIT: OK as in Oklahoma.....
Got a nice mature public land buck on my first sit of the year. I was super bummed to be missing October with work and a anniversary trip, but 20 minutes into my first hunting day, and this boy walks right through.
I found this spot last year, and just KNEW it had to be a priority. It is a pear tree that drops from early October till almost December, sits between 4 doe bedding areas, is a natural cover and terrain funnel, and is on a perfect cruising path. The trail camera has had about a shooter a day in daylight for the last 2 weeks. But, it needs a perfectly southeast wind to hunt it. Luckily, that’s the wind I got yesterday for my first hunt of the season.
The video above is about 20 seconds before my shot. He came in at 6:40 cruising for does. (Don’t mind the clock being off, all my cameras are) I barely had time to get a shot off. From first seeing him till he ran out of sight carrying half my arrow was maybe 40 seconds max. He piled up 80 yards from where I shot him.
His mass is awesome. That left base is simply huge. It’s more than I could ask for a first sit of the year, and especially being public.
I am boiling the skull as we speak, so hopefully he will be on the wall tomorrow.
