Shane, the cool thing about photography is that there is really no wrong or right, it is what you like.
I think the first one looks like what one would see on a poster for a western movie. Almost hand penciled but not over the top cartoonish. The B&W one is the same and also very cool.
Looking at the original, it looks like that would be a very cool photo to take in early morning or evening, whichever time of the day the light would hit the side of the building. I would bet right out of the camera you could get some cool, almost fire-glowing photos of that building.

Yeah, Scott, early morning light would hit the front of the building. Being there in the crappy midday light, I didn't have much to work with. I think that's why the overcooked HDR idea appealed to me for this one....art instead of photo (or something).
