I volunteered my skills on the neighborhood gate entrance to a pool. Please see attached pics. For the city of Houston to allow occupancy on a pool, the entrance gate has to close (and latch) from a fully open position, half open position, and from half an inch open. It closes from all positions, except from the half an inch open. The spring on the gate is pretty old, and from what the president tells me, is cranked to its strongest position. FYI, the gate swings away in the pic. He bought a new spring/bracket for $15. Link: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...8108/202042255
Any suggestions as to how to fix the gate so it closes from all 3 positions? Its supposed to rain all weekend, so I'd rather not bust out the welder. Any advice? Replace the spring using the old bracket? Fiddle with the old spring and see if I can squeeze some more torque out of it? If you were to mount the new spring, where would you put it on the gate? Original location, or in the middle?
Thanks in advance!
