I made a trip to northeast Texas to hunt some public land. Weather was perfect and had 3 days to hunt. Hunted from daylight until dark everyday. The last day it came together right before dark. I was daydreaming when I noticed movement in a thicket. It was a doe and I could tell she was nervous. Right behind her was a buck. He was broadside in the brush with no shot. I could tell he was a shooter with the long main beam and tall tines. I tried to get repositioned for a shot and the doe saw me. She runs down the edge of the thicket and the buck was right behind her. I was sick! I look back and another buck with a huge body is standing on the same trail they came out of. No doubt he was a shooter also. I take the shot and he buckled then run. I give it a short while and a stiff shot of turkey and go to where I shot. There was no blood. I go to searching for blood circling with daylight disappearing fast. I am confused at this point so head into the thicket the direction he went. Very shortly the woods are painted with bright red blood. Look ahead and se him laying stone cold dead. I sat and admired him and took some pics. Get him gutted and the fun part began. I was deep in there, very long drag! He had 7 points and a tine growing off the back of his base with a 17 5/8 inside spread. I'm proud of him! Got the Euro back and it turned out great! Wanted to share my success on a mature east Texas buck!
