Just looked up bur oak. According to the leaf, not a bur oak.
The swamp oak as mention above, looks like it. |

That acorn looks like it is from a nuttal (striped) oak. Most of their acorns, but not all of them, are noticeably striped. The leaves from a chinkapin oak resemble a swamp chestnut oak, which do not match your tree in question.

Need better pics of the leaves. Not a burr oak though. Best I can tell from the pic, some variety of pin. Need better pics.

Oak are very prolific at reproducing with any other oak, so there are many hybrid oak trees out there.

Looks like a Nuttall acorn, I hardly ever see them here but I have came across a few of them along creeks in East Texas. The acorn is too big to be a chinquapin.

![]() I forgot I had a lock on in one of these trees so this is where I’m at now. This one doesn’t seem to have any acorns but the other tree out in front of me is loaded. White Oak is what I’ve been calling it. |

That sir is definitely a Swamp Chestnut............One of the most sought after acorns by deer. Guard that thing with your life!
I have around 50 on my property and will be transplanting some up to my Dad's place. They are awesome |

![]() ![]() Swamp chestnut oak. I screen shot the picture you posted and entered it into the Picture this app. I have some of these same acorns near a big burr oak and I have been mistaking them for immature burr oak acorns. I have a giant burr oak loaded that I’m waiting for them to start falling. Mine is on a riverbank. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by Tshelly; 10-03-2022 at 11:04 AM. |

It’s definitely not a burr oak, their acorns are almost the size of a golf ball when the cap is intact and the leaves are shaped differently

Do yours produce every year? I found about 15-20 of them today, not a single acorn. Wondering if it's an off year, or if they've already hit the ground. Ground wasn't very disturbed under them and just a few small "hulls". Think the hulls were from the water oaks that they were scattered in. Quote:

We call them cow oaks. It’s in the white oak family. Our deer prefer these these acorns over all the others.
