Made up a few of my favorite lures for reds. A take off of Chicken on a chain and a Ghost Shad. I throw these on a 4/0 swim bait hook with a 1/4oz belly weight. They're very easy to work through oysters or grass in the back lakes.

I'm trying something different out in the garage. I'm making a couple lipless crank baits. I wanted to try some different materials and a different weight placement method. I'm using cutting board material for the center layer and a CD for the outsides. The two lower holes have lead in them and I'll put some steel shot from a 12 gauge shell in the upper holes for the rattles. The CD on the outside should provide the flash I'm looking for. We'll see how it works.

I put the steel shot in the upper holes and epoxied on the side. It rattles pretty good. I put in the hardware and I'll paint it tomorrow. The CD gives it a lot of flash.

One more. It's hard to take a picture with all the reflection.

What kind of epoxy/glue are you using to glue the cd onto the cutting board material??

Two part 5 minute epoxy from Walmart. For a final clear coat I use 2 part 30 minute Devcon, it dries very clear. I can't scuff the back side of the CD so I'll coat the hole thing in a clear coat after painting.

The back side of the label on a CD is what gives it the hologram look. Take it off and it's clear plastic.

I got it painted. I went with another classic, blue back chrome side. I put the epoxy on after that picture so I'll post another one tomorrow when it dries. Sometime this weekend I'll throw it in the water and see how it does. I don't like the CD as a lure material after working on this one. I'm unable to shape the sides so it makes a blocky looking lure. I do like the holographic look it gives. If it catches em I'll have different opinion. Lol

There's several different ways. On those I did like you said, cut them off, heated the end with a heat gun (it makes them bond) and poured in a tail. If I can help him in any way please let me know. My cell is 281-690-3190, you can text or call.

I'm not sure I liked the CD material, epoxy doesn't like a sharp edge. It leaves a rough edge and I can't round off the CD enough for the epoxy to be smooth. I do like the reflection it gives though. I'm going to layer the cutting board material for a jerk bait or something, I like working with that material. The rattles inside sound great also. I'll see how it works in the water, I like to be able to form the shape better.

I threw the CD lure this afternoon on my pier. It works pretty good. You have to use a medium speed retrieve to get it going, it's a tight wobble. It's going to do better this spring in the surf burning through the guts. I'm happy with it, thanks for the kind words.

I have high hopes for this one. I bought a blank, 6" jointed glide bait that I'm painting as a speckled trout. I got the base colors laid on tonight. Base white, pearl white, transparent purple, gold on the gill plate and silver darkened with a drop of black. It's got a ways to go yet, I made some stencils tonight. I'll have it done next week. I'm going to where I was on some big trout a couple weeks ago and see how they like it.

Tried to get a picture that shows the color blending. Y wife says I shouldn't throw it. It's going to get wet soon. We'll see if they'll eat their own.

I saw a YouTube video that gave me this idea. Pour a clear skin layer and use a sponge to do the black and the silver is a pearl powder that's put on with a brush. I have a few ideas for some future designs using this.

I contacted Mann's worm company about making zebra striped(black with white zebra stripes) augur tail worms like they use to sell in the 80's. They would only do a private order of 2500 worms. I couldn't keep the bass off of them. Nice work sir! |

A rattle trap would be easy to paint with just a rattle can. Use a sharpie for the eyes. The fish don't care how pretty I make a lure, none have ever stopped and admired one lol.
I started making lures because I wanted a black and white paddle tail and nobody was interested in making them. I catch 10 times as many reds on black and white paddle tails than any other color I make. |

I finally got this one done. I cut and carved it out of poplar. It's a 4" jointed swim bait. I went for kind of a croaker look to it. These glide type baits are a puzzle to me, they're difficult to get the action and sink rate I'm looking for. Big trout season is moving along and I'm not as far along as I'd like. But hey it looks pretty good.
