killer whales in the gulf

Having lived in the Pacific Northwest for a decade, where Orca sightings are very common, I am not sure where the concern over damaging a boat comes from. People having close encounters in boats as small as kayaks in the inland waters around Seattle and Vancouver, BC is not uncommon. I would not view an encounter with any more concern than a pod of dolphins.

Long liners up here hate them. They say the orcas know their boat engines and pull the halibut off the lines. Pretty smart critters for sure
