7 mag or 30-06 but a 243 win works fine.

I would like to try a 28 Nosler, on some mulies, I would bet it is a great muley cartridge. But would be very happy with a 7mm Rem. Mag. Either of the calibers would work for elk, but I would prefer a larger bore and heavier bullet, than is commonly used in a 7mm. I would prefer a 300 to 33 caliber magnum caliber for elk. A 300 Win. Mag. 300 Rum, 300 Weatherby would all be great choices. but I have wanted a 8mm Rem. Mag for years. If you could find a decent selection of bullets in 32 caliber, I think that would be my favorite elk caliber, that or maybe the 338 RUM.
I realize both critters have been killed with a lot smaller calibers, but when I do get to go on hunts, for something I don't get to do very often, I would like to increase my chances of bringing something home.
Now if I lived in Wyoming or Montana, and only had to drive 2 hours or less, to be in prime elk or mulie range. Then I would likely choose a smaller caliber. I would likely use a 7mm Rem. Mag for everything.Last edited by RifleBowPistol; 06-10-2022, 10:46 PM.
