Awesome thing you do for the youth.

We drove through 4 hours of snow/ice last year to get to San Angelo for the market goat show. Looks like we will do it again this year heading down for the wether doe show, which check in a day earlier than the market animals. Hopefully it warms up for long enough on Thursday afternoon to melt some off, we leave out early Friday morning. The combination of ice, hills, skinny roads, trailer, and 2wd pickup is not one I especially like.

Love seeing the pics. My son showed through high school and was part of the Show Team at SHSU. I sure miss those days of going to the majors. Lots of scholarship money to be had. Y'all keep up the good work.

I love family pictures, so I'm going to drop some from our county show. My daughter is 13 years younger than her oldest brother, so she is close to half way between her brothers and our grandkids. My daughter is determined her little niece and nephew are showing when they get older, and she is constantly working getting them in the peewee shows. All of my family loves animals.

Top picture is my son and his wife, my daughter, and the littles. That red-headed boy is a mess, I promise. The grandkids sure were proud of their peewee participation trophies.

Another Cowtown steer show in the books. We were high as a kite when we got him classed shorthorn yesterday. Come showtime today, we had him dialed in and he looked like a 1,500 lb shiny penny. The class was 45 calves. He got pulled and showed him like a pro. When the dust settled, he placed 11th! Oh by the way, top 10 make the sale. Everyone else gets the same participation ribbon. 11th is known as the cry-spot. Hey, someone has to claim it!

Fantastic memories with my little big man. We're crazy blessed to get the chance to do this together. On to San Antonio.

I just now saw this thread. Trey, I remember that red steer at New Braunfels. We knew as soon as he walked out he was going to win. My daughter didn’t do well at all with our steer. She’s had better results with her ag mech project. It’s a gate that won reserve grand at our local show. Crossing our fingers for SA in a few weeks.

Grayson didn't do so well with his goat this year, but it was a super tough class he got put in. As soon as we walked the goats into the holding area, I texted the wife and said, well I don't think this is his year, there are some really nice goats over here.

Laigen tore her ACL the Saturday before Thanksgiving, so Grayson has basically had to raise her goats for her, and then she had some friends that raised them. She was able to go out and help feed them after a few weeks, but little brother really helped out with walking and drenching the goats. Luckily she had some really good friends that showed her goats for her. Her goats placed 3rd in both classes they were in. Her middle weight goat placed 3rd right behind the 2 girls who eventually placed Grand and Reserve, so she did make the sell. Unfortunate for her, she is having to share her winnings with her brother! lol

Laigen focused mainly on her ag mech project this year which was a dog kennel with barn doors. Had a buyer that we are going to build another kennel for with some modifications and we will be keeping the original one.

Flying trip down to San Angelo for the wether doe show, 36 hours door to door down there and back. Didn't get hardly any pictures. Judge kept looking at her pretty hard, but we ended up in the crying spot, judge took the other one over my daughters to round out the top 10. It is OK though. The doe never really was part of our plan this year she just fell in our lap so to speak. Pretty decent little girl, but had a few little issues that kept her out of the top. Both my daughter and the doe showed good though so we are happy. It was a new thing for us and a good learning experience.

Next stop will be San Antonio with the wether that got booted at Ft Worth. He is still looking good, we are hoping he can place good again.

How is SA going for everyone? Wave 1 steers showed today. Nathan was middle weight Simi and took a lap. Dang thing has really disappointed us the last two months. Fell apart on his wheels. Something we never saw coming. Thought the big red steer was done, but we're throwing everything we have at him the next three weeks and trying Austin.

Good luck to all those with shows ahead still!

My nephew (KP Cattle) has had a good run. He and his college roommate raise show steers and heifers and have done well this year. So far they’ve made the sale with most of their calves and had Champion ABC in Ft Worth & San Antonio with home grown calves. On to Houston next.

Glad to see this thread Trey!!!

2023 has been good to us so far!!!

Talen’s Charolais Steer picked up some more hardware back in January as well as a showmanship check. We have him slicked now prepping for our county fair.

FWSSR was a success for his Beefmaster scramble heifer. Picked up a 5th place ribbon out of a class of 35.

Same heifer was 8th place out of 33 in San Antonio last week. She’ll show in the scramble show and jr show in Houston March 7th.

Then we’ll be right back to Houston with a Limousin/Red Cross Steer. He is a lil extreme power house. Hopefully we can get him branded.

His heifer from last year calved Jan 26th in a flash flood while standing in a drainage creek. Calf washed down the creek, thru a water gap, about 50 yards and beached on a sand bar. When Talen found her, her shoulders and head were the only thing out of the water. 4 days at the vet and she miraculously survived. We have high hopes for them showing as a cow calf pair this year.

We’ll wrap up the end of March with our county show… Shotgun & Archery contest along with a Goat, Steer, Heifer, Cow/calf pair and a set of commercial heifers.

We have a barn full of heifers and already have steers picked for next year.

Good luck to everyone in 2023!!!
