New rule changes to be announced later this week concerning the incident in the season finale. Should be interesting to see what the FIA comes up with.

Here's a pretty decent time eater for those looking to watch something race care related-
Compares Indy cars to F-1 cars, one takeaway was the only track the two have raced at recently in the same year had the F-1's circling COTA 11 seconds faster than the Indy's, but Indy Cars top speed is at least 5 mph faster than the F-1's.
Due to differences in downforce.

Donut media is a decent time killer, this video included-

11 seconds faster?!? Wow!!

That means even a Haas can beat an Indycar. ROFL!

That is pretty interesting, F1 and Indy were much closer in the CART days when Mansell left for the states to run in Paul Newmans team, Senna even secretly tested a Penske back then. But costs were going crazy in Indycar too and they knew it wasn't sustainable, they had multiple chassis and engines like F1 and the cars were just bonkers, engine noise and speed. Penske has Indycar going in the right direction right now for sure. Its kinda funny F1 starts to contain costs this year and their kit is looking a lot more like an Indycar now.

Wow! That is an incredibly gorgeous car! I just hope it's as fast as it is beautiful...

I think the dip in the side pods funnels air towards the rear wing for additional downforce.

I was watching some more of that donut youtube channel, they said this years cars are actually going to much slower but not so much because of the aero rules changes with limiting wing elements but because of the larger diameter tire rims sap more energy than small rims.

Well there is a box so to say but look at the difference in the air inlets between the Ferrari and the MB.

Today is the first day of testing in Barcelona. I normally don't pay a lot of attention to the time sheets, because you never know exactly what the teams are working on / not necessarily showing their full speed potential.

Here is a short video showing all the cars running on the first day of testing.

https://youtu.be/CJbVYG50Pxw

I can’t get over how high the front wing looks. It’s almost cartoonish.

Also, what Red Bull / Adrian Newey have done with their side pods is pretty radical. Not nearly as sexy as the Ferrari, but maybe Newey knows something no one else has thought.

Haas has now renamed the team "Haas F1 Team" instead of "Uralkali Haas F1 Team." They are also removing all logos of Uralkali, and remove the Russian colors from the livery.

Also, it seems that the teams are struggling with the new cars bouncing up and down. They are calling it porpoising. The cars are generating large amounts of downforce, then suddenly losing it. Very strange.

Formula 1 says it “will continue to monitor the situation very closely” after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while Haas pulled team principal Guenther Steiner from media duties amid the crisis.

A military operation launched by Russian president Vladimir Putin has received global criticism and led to severe sanctions being imposed on the country, which is set to host the Russian Grand Prix — which Putin has attended on multiple occasions — in September. F1 says it is keeping an eye on the developments but has made no decision on the race’s future.

“Formula 1 is closely watching the very fluid developments like many others and at this time has no further comment on the race scheduled for September,” an F1 spokesperson said. “We will continue to monitor the situation very closely.”

The sanctions imposed could have financial implications for Haas, as the team has a Russian title sponsor in the form of Uralkali. The company is controlled by Nikita Mazepin’s father Dmitry, who held a meeting with Putin last month to talk about its operations and prospects.

While a Haas spokesperson stated “presently, there is no knock-on impact” on the relationship between the team and Uralkali on Thursday morning, the situation is developing rapidly and a further statement could be provided before the end of the day.

Haas pulled Steiner from a planned FIA press conference on Thursday in Spain and declined to offer up a team representative, with Sebastian Vettel stating in the same sessions that he will boycott the race if it goes ahead.

The brakes on the Red Bull RB18.

Granted, I'm not an engineer or mechanic, but I've changed brake pads a couple of times. I don't recognize ANYTHING in this picture! ROFL!

They are saying it could also be Colton Herta to get some experience before Andretti starts their F1 team in 2024, HAAS would love an American driver.

It would be GREAT to see an American driver.

I'm hoping that Andretti forms at 11th team for 2024, and doesn't buy out Haas, Alpine or Alfa Romero.

Also, looks like Porsche will be joining in 2026.

Its looking like Andretti will be the Renault (Alpine) junior team, Sauber (AR) already burned the Andretti bridge. As far as HAAS he has had many groups throw money at him trying to buy the team and he is just not interested in selling... but now with this Russian stuff and him losing all that Uralkali money who knows... There is stupid stupid money involved in F1, people think NASCAR is expensive and its not even close.

I also saw that this morning. I would imagine Haas (or any team) has some sort of clause in their contract regarding matters like this. Let's see what happens...

Leaving Magnussen is back with haas for a multi year deal! I really liked him as a driver and glad to see him back with the team. They were a true mid field team with him and grosjean back a few years.

Thumbs up

I saw where LeClerc had the best morning times at the now official practice runs for the new cars. Pierre Gasly had the fastest times for the full day however!!! I think 2022 is going to be BUCKWILD. I have a 2 pm call today with MIAMI F1 folks to get my parking permit........gotta be up close & personal for the inaugural event, LOL!!!

Yes, Gasly topped the time sheets for Day 1 of pre season testing in Bahrain.

Mercedes also introduced a new "slim line" style sidepod. Looks great, just not sure how well it's going to work with cooling the engine.
