    Tree ID

Found this on Richland Creek WMA (Trinity River bottom) and don’t know what it is
First saw berries? I thought it was a Chinaberry tree but fruit was translucent and leaves and bark all wrong too

Never heard of such, but looks like it very well could be.

Does it have a nickname? That’s one I don’t think I’ve ever seen if that’s what it is

Jaboncillo comes to mind as another name for it.

Or maybe Flameleaf Sumac- very similar to western soapberry!

I’m glad I ran across this thread, I’ve got 3-4 of those on my place just north of Hutto and have been wondering what they are. Images on the google looks like western soapberry is correct

Do you really think I don't know a black walnut Kyle?

                  Maybe a pygmy black walnut

                  "Fruit" was size of chinaberries

Western Soapberry looks like a match

Should have brought some of those home and used them to shower with

Judging by the bark, it's an old one. Western Soapberries dont get very big and dont get really scaly bark until theyre old

Don't believe I've ever seen one of these.

If I had them I would.

Lost them somewhere on the 2mi trip back to the truck
