Need some help on birthday gift recommendations from you guys/ladies. Our son turns 13 and looking at what we can get him. Loves to hunt and fish. Let’s hear your ideas!!! Hard to buy when they have almost everything related to hunting and fishing.

Buy him a custom knife. One of a kind. He may not appreciate fine craftsmanship now but one day he will.

If he doesn't already have it, get him a lifetime hunting/fishing license... That's a gift that he will always remember and use AND it will save him untold thousands of dollars over his lifetime!

Lifetime hunting license, or fishing, or both but that gets pricey. He may not appreciate it now but he will later on.

That is about the age I was when my dad got me my Benelli 12 gauge to graduate me up from the 20 gauge. I'm 30 now and I took that gun teal hunting yesterday. Or something he wont appreciate now, but will when he is older is lifetime hunting/fishing license!

Do you have a price range you are wanting to stay in? I agree that the lifetime license is a great idea (I wish my dad did it for me) but he probably won't appreciate it until he is older. A few other ideas are below:
High price limit: Nice shotgun/rifle A hunting trip for a bucket list animal Medium price limit: Custom knife Quality binoculars Rangefinder Quality rod/reel combo Taxidermy for animal/fish Low price limit: Hemingway books TK & Mike DVD collection Make him a set of rattling horns with leather wraps Quality production knife |

Start him a roth retirement account. Let him continue to contribute to it. When he's ready to retire, he will be a very wealthy man! Also a nice custom knife to go with it. Both gifts will last a lifetime!

That's what I did for my boys. Get with one of the knife makers (Jank was awsome) and customize the knife and sheath a bit. My boys are late 20's now and still love whipping their custom knives out when skinning time comes. If you want to spend the money, a lifetime hunting license is also pretty awesome. Especially if they take jobs out of state when they are older.

Good ideas, keep them coming.
This bucket list animal will be his gift for graduation from high school for sure. Not sure about one right now. Since lots of you guys talking about lifetime license, we do a lot of hunting in Oklahoma since that is where I am from. The out of state lifetime will need some saving up. He has a lot of guns passed down from my dad to him (new one never hearts). He has a savings account but that’s it right now. He has a kayak and lots of fishing stuff. I have never regretted buying him anything hunting or fishing related. Problem is seem to be running out of options. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

maybe a digital night vision scope that also works in the day and records video (something like the Wraith). Then he can record all his hunts and share with his buddies.

Sounds like he's got "stuff". I'd opt for a hunting or fishing experience. Hire a guide on Lake Fork or go on a hunt together.
My son talks much more about our experiences than any of the things we bought him. |

Well, becoming 13 is sort of a right of passage... maybe a trip out with the men... fishing or hunting, you know, just one of the guys now... My dad did that with me and my brother... We went fishing, and I was the boat captain... and they did what I wanted for a whole 4 day weekend... That weekend stands out as one of the most memorable experiences of my life to this day...

Does he have a subscription to one of those fishing boxes like mystery tackle box? My son enjoyed that when he was that age and ate up with fishing.
Maybe a Gopro so he can video his hunts and fishing trips. I know alot of kids are into posting things on youtube. Since he has a kayak, you can get him rigged up with the special mounts for the camera on his kayak. Or his own pair of Costas? |

Maybe a bowfishing or flounder gigging trip. He's old enough now that he'll definitely remember the trip. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk |

Lots of good ideas here. I'm thankful my parents bought my lifetime license when I graduated college as a gift. It doesn't sound like that's an option right now but if that does become one it's hard to beat.
There's a number of bows that are really slick these days that have a broad range of draw weights/lengths. There's one by Bowtech (think it's called the Amplify) that goes from 7-70lbs and 21"-30" draw. I remember getting a real bow about his age and the bug has been with me ever since, and he would certainly be able to use it for the foreseeable future. Good luck! |

My 12 yo told me last weekend he wants a black F250 lol. I bought him a dirtbike last year for his bday. Hes kind of outgrown it and now he wants to sell it to get a 4 wheeler. I bought myself a dirtbike off craigslist when he got his and we had a lot of fun.
Paddleboard is a good option also. |

Not sure of your budget, but I do like some of the ideas thrown out. A nice gun that he can use and pass down, or an experience with you such as a hunt. Just took my 13 year old and he was able to shoot a Scimitar Oryx. I think it was as much as a present for me to make those memories as it was for him.
