I'm a dummy about this. What is the value? Something inside the converter? Just curious.

There is definitely something in the air, we had some people at work get hit, in broad daylight even. We have cameras (not very good ones) on our pole lights, and they got away scot free. Our new cameras will be here next week.

It would stop or slow way down if TEXAS made it illegal to sell them.

Had 2 stolen from Toyota trucks in our parking lot. Fortunately they weren't customers. We installed extra cameras and have a monitor behind the counter. They seem to go after the tundras.

Thieves suck, I sold some from my past diesels this year and they averaged about $750 a truck so that’s why their jacking them. Big quick cash for a tweaker, had a tweaker looking scum try to swipe a set of 24” American Force wheels off a Ram dual a couple weeks ago, the big semi lug lugs really frustrated the poor fella, he was throwing a tantrum over not having a socket to fit the nuts LOL. It was comical yet I still feel he needed to be shot in the face,, he did take a few nut covers as a parting gift..

Recent news article in Houston about it. Apparently same # cat theft this past February than all of 2020? Paint it bright colors with high temp paint? Seems like easy detective work to set up a few bait trucks and track the network of parts. Hopefully someone’s on it

We work hard every day to have something nice, and have someone who is well able to work stealing our Hard earned property. Here’s the problem! With all the liberal laws our lives would be ruined over killing the thief because the thief these days has more rights than you n me!! Thanks to the liberals.. Nuff said! |

I can see killing someone to save a life.
All you people saying you would kill a thief....would you really? I feel like I wold live with guilt my entire life if I killed someone period. I could justify the guilt if I could honestly say to myself “it was their life or mine” but over a personal item???? Not sure I could justify that. I know a very good friend of mine that took someone’s life and he was justified. He still lives with guilt about it daily. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I’m gonna agree with this. Thieves don’t care about me or my stuff or my hard work to support my family by working for a living. I don’t feel bad when I see that one gets killed in the act of stealing someone’s stuff. I feel bad for the person that shot them knowing what they will have to go through now. I don’t care about a **** thief getting shot. I just would not because of the jail time and other BS involved with it. The guilt associated with it is way down on the list. Maybe that makes me a horrible person, I dunno. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As soon as someone decides to be a thief, their life no longer has any value to me. I've worked hard for what I have, and will not accept someone taking it from me. I wouldn't shoot someone over a muffler, but not because I'd feel any guilt over taking out the trash. The legal repercussions in our "but he was a good boy" litigious society just ain't worth it. I think most on here think the same and are just disgusted at having to deal with all the human excrement we have walking around.

One of the guys on the lease has a tow company. A few years ago he was telling me about the tow business. I thought he said the converters were worth $1000, and the vehicle was worth $2,500-$3,500 for scrap metal.

Just came up with an idea! An alarm for your exhaust! The exhaust is grounded thru the motor and frame, but the end of the exhaust is just suspended from a rubber hanger. If you wire a siren to the end of the exhaust so that a relay will open once ground is lost, once they make one cut on the exhaust, the end from the cats back will lose ground and trigger a siren mounted under the truck. They will still get one cut on you but the chance that they hang around to finish the job is slim to none. Way easier to get a cut welded up than the entire exhaust replaced.

These guys get $200-$400 per CAT. Some of these thieves have made over $100K selling the CATs. The bad thing in Harris County they are given low bonds because it’s a property crime. Some of them had started carrying pistols and confronting the truck owners.

the only way to stop this is with yet another law. this time a better one than normal. show proof of ownership of the vehicle, before you can sell.

I thought we got the copper thefts under control by requiring that the seller present a photo id that is recorded. The folks buying them are just as much of the problem as the thiefs.

Any cut in the exhaust period will break ground if done correctly. The only place exhaust is grounded is header. If you connect the wire I’m referring to directly behind the exhaust tip, any cut anywhere will trigger alarm. It will also rigger alarm if you cut the wire. There is a way around it but takes time and preparation. All of which these crackheads ain’t doing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

They hit my Tundra this weekend. Vintage Park off of 249 around 2-3 pm in a very busy parking lot. Must not be any consequences for these thieves since they are doing this in the middle of the day. May have to look into one of the under carriage plates.

Wish the state would still let them be removed for farm exemption vehicles, as crude gets hung up when driving around the pasture and needs to be cleaned out before they catch fire
