New arrows are LOUD

My new arrows shoot great but they are extremely loud compared to the cheap ones I've been shooting.

This is the first set of arrows that I've really took the time to tune. I ordered the Black Eagle test kit and shot the bare shafts until I was happy with a length and spine. Then I ordered a half dozen Black Eagle Vintage arrows. They shoot great, fletching looks great, bow seems quiet but arrows are LOUD in flight. Anyone else ever deal with this?

I had this issue when my fletchings had an extreme helical twist.

I assume they are their standard shield cut feathers?

Shield and helical are loud compared to offset and parabolic

Yes. 4" shield cut.

I know some people think its a sin against traditional archery, but trad vanes produce significantly less noise than feathers...

Turns out my old arrows a straight fletched. That's why the new ones a louder.

I cut down some 4” shield straight fletchings to about 2” and they really buzz going down range. I reckon I should gravitate to another shape or style too.

What year is the cutoff for "Traditional"? Just curious as vanes have been around since 1951.

I'd love to know as well. Several of the "old timers" from the 50s and 60s were using vanes and sights on recurves while shooting animals at 40+ yards. All of those things are banishable offences 60 years later...

Right on DRT. I am a member of AT as well and there is some great info on there BUT lots of bashing daily. I rarely post because of the "experts".
