Default Chap Gun Hunt - New Thread

Well figured I would start a new thread. We are headed out tonight so we donít have to do the whole drive in the morning. Hunting with other TBHer MikeJ and 2 other folks. A lot of guys for one compartment but because the site drew for us, they gave us one of the biggest ones.

For those who know Chap, we have the entire East Blocker pasture. Between youth hunts, javelina and archery, this will be the 8th time Iíve hunted down there. Have a game plan but who knows what will happen. Just hoping to have some good LDPs later this week. Plan is to hold out early in the week for a GOOD one but canít guarantee Iíll be as choosy later in the week.

We will be trying to keep this as live as possible. Been looking forward to this week since we were drawn.

Hey pops, pretty sure I will make it that way, too, be in a white Ram with a utility bed. Guy on the other Chap thread says he is going, too. We should try to hook up.
Would love to get 4 TBHer's on one card.

Good luck drawing boys. Hope y’all pull the lucky card. Rolled in a couple hours ago and there’s 3 other tents set up tonight don’t know if they’re drawn or standby.

I hunted East blocker during the management hunt. There were some good bucks in there 3 weeks ago. One of them was the 160 that was wshot. I had him at 50 yards for over 30 minutes. Saw several other good bucks that week. Pm me if you have any questions. Good luck!

Good luck to everyone going, to hunt or to try standby.

I’ll be arriving around 10am hopefully. Will be in a black F150. Drove home to Houston from San Saba today with a stop at Bellville and leaving to Chap. tomorrow morning. Meat hunt is done for the year so just hoping to have a chance at a nice buck after staring at numerous tall 8’s, 10’s, and a 13 all weekend that were off limits. I’ll be happy when the driving is done and I’m sitting in my compartment for the week.

I might make the drive and roll the dice if you guys need one more. Increases chances to get on same card. Unless the tracts are small acreage

I would venture to guess( and that is all it is) that the compartments left for standby would be on the small side.

Corn spread and cameras out. Got 5 tower stands in our compartment and we set up 2 other stands. We are spread out in the tower stands tonight. Watching as much have as hunting.

After getting set up, we were eating lunch at the end of one of the long roads. And had a shooter step out 400 yds down the road on our corn. Ate a few seconds and moved on. We put the young guy (24) in that stand. Here one of my views for the evening. 400 yds one direction, over 500 yds the other.

what compartment you in ?? I still *sigh* when I walk past my truck....that red mud and dust is still all over my trucks utility bed, great memories....was there for management hunt....and left a half-day early...wish I was STILL there, hahaha

nevermind nevermind....just reread your OP, I was in West Mustang, just south of you in East Blocker for the management hunt, but saw a 10 point I would consider to be possibly the biggest deer out there....no kidding...

I hope someone is set-up close to the water tank adjoining northernmost West Mustang....thats the only hint I will drop....

East Blocker. Unfortunately first movement of the afternoon is a pack of javelina. Sucking up my corn.

As a group, we only had 10. One guy though carried us, he had 20. MikeJ has been watching a couple does hoping they work as decoys. All quiet here for me. No gun shots that Iíve heard.

Just had a big bodied 8 pop up. Much more mature deer. He just slowly escorted the wide guy off the sendero. Good deer but not quite what Iím looking for, especially on the first night. U r right, they are pouring out of the brush now.

Three doe in the last 30 minutes, some noisy hogs nearby and a lot of birds for 15, middle South Jay. Sounded like the gentleman in 14 lower, South Jay, hunting the Western sendero in his compartment may have fired a shot. Didnít want to hang around to see what was brought in.

Weather is supposed to be perfect this week. New moon... just need a big boy to cooperate. All four in our group saw decent 8s tonight but no definite shooters stepped out in range. MikeJ had over 10 does in front of him at one time. I saw bucks and does together and they werenít showing a whole lot of interest in the ladies.

With the cooler weather and rut kicking off hunt all day. There should be some monsters taken this week. Can't beat south Texas hunting during the rut.
