LF Age & Score

This is a buck we call bulldozer. Have a lot of history with this buck.... but have had a hard time nailing down his age. Thoughts on age and score? Kind of hard to see what he has from the pics, but he is a stand up 12 with splits on both G3s to make him 14pts total.

My wife killed one a couple years ago that is almost a twin to that one. Hers was 174 and change and broke off a couple inches. I think your buck will be around that, 168-174. You don’t need super tall tines when there’s a lot of them. Lol

Man, I honestly don’t know yet. I agree he is showing the signs of a fully mature buck (7-8)... but I’ll post the pics from prior years so you can see what has us somewhat puzzled on his actual age.

Here is a pic from the first year we saw him. 100% no doubt the same buck. This pic was taken Nov. 2017.

Based on this pic, it’s really hard for me to put him past 5-6 this year.

Yeah that kind of changes things with that photo, with that photo and that deer looking like he’s no older than 3, he may just be a big healthy 5-6 year old. I’m just as confused as you now haha!

He looks 6 to me just healthy. I don't see the sway back or the real lose skin under the jaw and neck area. he does have nice beam length, just wish his tine length was as good as his beams. The standards yall have at your ranch "NOT A SHOOTER"

That makes two of us! I think I'm leaning towards a fat 6 yr old. He is a protein hound so most likely we will roll the nice and give him one more year and see what he does. I would much rather shoot him a year too late than a year too early.

Me too. I have many years of history now. I have a dozen bucks that are far older than anyone would ever guess them including me if I didn't have history. I have posted several of them on here in the past just for kicks .

I'd argue that buck in the 2017 photo is no older than 2.5.

I totally agree your big buck looks older than 5yo, but if they are 100% the same buck - my math puts him at a 5yo. He's a chunk.

I hear ya. No, they don’t score any different. But, I do feel they can show age different than pen raised (not native hf) deer. And I was more concerned with age than score with this thread.

Based more off the pic you have of him and sound confident it’s the same deer, I’d say he’s 2.5 there putting him at close to 5.5. If wasn’t afraid he’d get shot I’d definitely see what he does with another year. His legs and body now look older than 5.5 so that young pic may just be really deceiving if it’s him.

Yeah I’m leaning on the side of letting him walk. We have other deer that are known 7+ we will be hunting so he will probably live another year and hopefully continue living at the protein station. He is for sure the same deer. I have seen him no less than 50 sits each year starting in 2017. One of the most predictable bucks on the ranch.

I think there is no way he is less than 6.5 this year. His baby face on the 2017 pics is throwing us off I think. Cut his head off those pics and he does not look 2.5 at all.

I see what you mean. Cover up the head and he’s looking closer to 4.5 in the 2017 pic. Crazy. Ok, I’ll say he’s now 7.5

Here is ‘18 pics. Sorry for the bad pics. All I have are bino/iPhone pics. I lost the SDs cards from that year. I have ‘19s pics on my cards at the ranch. I will post ‘19 when I go this week.

Those 17 pics definitely throw a wrench into the process after seeing those first few - I would lean towards 7. The difference makes it really tough to tell though.

Found one side of this guy today so figured I would bump this thread. Some of you guys were spot on with the score guesses. With a matching side and 20” spread, he would have scored 172”. Will definitely be a buck on our radar for next season.
