Figured I would get this going.
Went up to freshen mineral sites and put out a few cameras. Did have this guy on camera. Looks like he made a great start to antler growing season! ![]() Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk Last edited by arrowslinger; 06-14-2020 at 06:49 AM. |

Awesome! I need to get back to my place and get some cams running. Have plenty of work to do to get ready for the season. Back in April I had a buck that was already split with brows. I can't wait to see what he turns into this year.

I just got on a lease near antlers, be setting it up soon and can’t wait to see what’s on it. One question for you guys about the hunting regs. I am just wanting to bow hunt but if I’m reading the regs correctly I have to buy a rifle license to bow hunt during rifle season? I’m hoping that’s not the case!!

About to time to get started again. You guys whack any good birds? Or pick up any good sheds? I worked a bird for 2 hrs finally got him, fun but long and tiresome hunt. Not sure that I made my 100 this year but got close on sheds

Any of you guys on here hunt saddles on the south facing slopes. I started scouting a couple and was wondering where yall would set up on this to hunt?
The red line is a overgrown logging road I had to cut in to gain access. About 100 yards from the end we stopped cutting and left thick. Put a camera where the pin drop is and caught deer, pigs, and bear travel right across the end of the road. ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |

I hunt up Atoka on our family land. I’ll be up there most of my days I’m not working during season. I have a blue lacy tracking dog that will be with me any time I’m up in Oklahoma should any of you guys within reasonable distance need tracking. Text works best for me - two five 4 - 747 - two 3 five 4

Not to discourage you, but bad thing about south facing slopes is the predominant wind in Oklahoma is south, most deer I have hunted bed on north facing slopes so they can see down hill and smell anything coming from behind them.

We're in Southeast Atoka Co. no bears thankfully. I suspect one might pop up on the trail cams one day maybe. They certainly aren't far away.

You can feed protein but it might take a few evenings/nights to give those over grown trash pandas lead poisoning. That’s is how we handle them on our leases

Went up and started prepping food plots and getting ready last week. We don't have many good bucks on camera yet. But, we haven't had the cameras running very long and we suspect they're spending their summer on the neighboring property. I have faith they'll make their way to us. everyone's bucks are looking good!

Hoping to get out to my place in eastern Choctaw county in the next couple of weekends. Need to prep some new areas for small kill plots, get some access trails trimmed up, and some trees prepped for saddle hunting. Ready to get some cams out too!

Saddles!? Come on guys that sounds miserable. I find my millenniums uncomfortable after 3/4 hours can’t imagine hanging off side of tree in a crotch harness for more than 30 mins. Not dogging you guys but with the right wind you can hunt in a **** elm 5’ off the ground

For sets that are permanent a hang on is great. It's one of them things that you cant knock it till you try it. I was in that same boat and ended up liking it. Way more comfortable than a treestand IMO because I stand up 90% of my hunts anyway. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |

![]() I haven't ever sat in one. Until I purchased my place in Choctaw I was a public land guy and I have missed being mobile, and more aggressive. I feel I can get super light weight on a mobile setup and sneak in on bedding areas easier than trying to hang stands in them. We will see how I like it. |

I guess I need to join in on this thread. We bought a little 14 acre tract up in Latimer County on Panola Mtn earlier this year. I plan on doing a little bow hunting on it. My son and I were late getting up there and didn't get the feeder and cameras set up until early June. I plan on going back up in a few weeks to check cards to see what's roaming those hills. Looking forward to this season...

So I’ve been thinking about hunting in SE OK. Any deer up there?
![]() It’s been a while. 2 years of grad school followed by the purchase of our place in Haskell county kept our Push County sightings to a minimum. This fall we (me, son, and daughter) will be back doing damage! Me and the boy recently got his hanging feeder back in shape and put out some mineral. Despite having it 15’ in the air and at least that far from the nearest climbable pine tree, the bears managed to do some damage. We are all good now. ![]() Just got some cameras back out so hopefully the contenders will make appearances soon. Been on our place for 23 years now and have loggers reshaping the landscape as we speak. Areas that I knew like the back of my hand changed overnight and are continuing to change. I visited with the company man and tried to shape the cut line nearest my favorite stand to benefit us but we will see. My hope is that these boys get done quickly and move on! ![]() Looking forward to a good season. Last edited by Booner Sooner; 07-22-2020 at 10:30 PM. |

My main hunting lease has been clear cut to death. Use to feel like a huge lease not so much anymore. Deer love them though. Just makes it a little tough when it’s a bow only lease.

Not sure how much of a ratio of clear cut vs standing timber you have but my experience with clear cuts are that the second year after harvest they are a bonanza of food and a super magnet for the deer. On our place, once an area is cut I concentrate my scouting on the nearest bedding and travel corridors. Finding staging areas within the existing cover leading to the new clear cuts and hunting those have been a winner for me! On another note, there is little that is more disorienting to me that having an area that you’ve muted for 20 years cut like crazy and then walking out of your new set at night. ![]() |

The reason it is like this is because they do a spray kill first year after clear cut. Plant second year no spray, all new growth. The travel corridors and pinch points have not changed in 50 years. Deer travel where they grew up, their parents, grand parents....., anywhere you have a timber type change is always a good travel corridor. Does not change the fact that clear cuts suck for bow hunters.

We got hit hard with clear cuts the last 2 years. I'm no expert but to me it made it easier to narrow down the travel and now have access to drains that create edges. I don't know for sure but thats part of my plan for this season. Hunt the new edges on drains and hunt saddles I found via topo maps.

Any of you guys have any openings or know if any land for lease? Our lease of 10 years was sold this past weekend and we’ll be looking for a new place. Any heads up on places would be greatly appreciated.
