Cool Washing machine quality.

We need another washing machine. We presently have a Whirlpool, that is 5 years old and will not stay running. Keeps coding out(various codes) and shutting down.

What says the TBH brotherhood?

Go get a old school non-high efficiency machine. Learned that lesson for good about 3 years ago.

Speed Queen. A friend of mine owns an appliance store and sells all brands, when I called and asked him which one to buy he said Speed Queen hands down. Owned one for 5 years now and never had a problem.

They suck. Hardly uses any water and sometimes the clothes don't even get wet all the way. Theres no agitator so not sure how it really swishes the clothes around. We got one a few years back and we hate it. When its time for a new one we'll try to find as close to old school as possible.

I know a couple people that have Speed Queen and the only complaint I have heard from any of them is that they're almost too powerful. Not something I would complain about.

I know some people don't like Sears products but, I have always had great luck with their washers and dryers, just recently replaced washer, went with the Kenmore. Works great for me.

It's a thing that people make a living off buying old units, or getting them for free, buying the parts (since there isn't much to a washer, and even less to a dryer) and fixing them up. They then sell them as a set on Craigslist for roughly $150, if I remember correctly. Had a buddy do this. He said they last forever, easy to work on. He said to never get a front loader, and to stay away from expensive, new ones. They're all going to break within a few years. Old school is the way to go.

I went thru (3) of the new ones in the last 10 years that are HE. I searched and searched and finally found a use appliance place in New Caney that sold the old style Washers. It has worked well for the 6 months I had it and only paid $200 for it. I refused to buy another HE. I can get parts for the old style online and fix it yourself.

We recently replaced our 6 year old LG garbage set. The washing machine turned into a big rust bucket, and as others have expressed, it just didn't seem to wash very well. The dryer started to get loud, so we ditched them for an "old school" style washer with an agitator and the ability to submerge clothes in water, and a very basic dyer. No space-aged displays with doodads and what-nots. Our pre-LG set was an old Whirlpool set my wife had before we married and it worked fine when we got rid of it, thinking that we "needed" a high-efficiency washer. Boy, were we wrong!

Bottom line, keep them simple and as mechanical as possible. They last longer and will be easier and cheaper to repair!

Old school speed queen is the way our salesman steered us. No fancy electronics to crap out in a couple of years and he also stressed that the gearbox is still metal and not all plastic like most of the newer ones. Ours has been in service for 3 years now and not a hiccup at all.

Speed Queen quality has now suffered as well. Dunno if itís due to EPA or what. But it seems over the last two or three years changes were made to SQ design. As a result the washing machines donít get dirty clothes as clean as once did.

x2.

I got a matching Whirlpool set from 2005 that my parents gave me when I moved out at 18. They've gone through hell, but keep on trucking. The main filler hose busted on the washer. Replaced it with a radiator hose from O'reilly's, and had to bypass the safety latch at the control board. Other than that, both of em have been working great since 2005. They don't make them like they use to.
