I dont just because its usually a spir of the moment deal when I cook them.

If I were to plan it out and had time though, I would. So if you got the time, it wont do anything but help.

Some bacon grease and flour in a separate pan. Once that browns, add beans, mush, and you're good

I use a 2 lb bag and a 16 oz bud. I like to let the beans soak up all the bud, then start the cooking.

If you're cooking more than a standard bag of pintos than I'd say add a little more.

I cooked a 4# bag and the list of ingredients seemed to be pretty right for it.

If a standard size bag is less than 4# I would like to know how much it weighs?

Should have posted this a while back, but here goes.
I cooked a double batch of these in February for a big to do that we had. Everyone LOVED them! In fact, no one believed it was the first time I'd ever made them. They were such a huge hit that they were requested for the next campout. (Our scout master was at the to do)

Made them in March (another double batch) for the Boy Scout district camporee. Again, they were a huge hit!

I was again requested to bring a pot of my "famous beans" to a Cinco de Mayo party. Once again, they were a huge hit.

I'm gonna make a pot today to enjoy.
