Been a real up and down year, but swamped at the moment. I have heard of several shops laying off lately, maybe this can help with the bills till something comes up. This will probably be a temporary job. At least several weeks, depends on work load. May be permanent, just dont want to mislead.

Looking for skilled CNC Machinist to set up and run primarily lathes, but maybe some mill work. I provide program and you do the rest. Need someone proficient and able to handle it all. Set up, run, inspect. Must want to work, this is not a sit and watch it run 1000pcs type job. Common to set up multiple times a day. Nothing too complicated, but not all gravy either.

Right person will be $25+/hr. Must be legal to work in US, I9 and other paperwork as required. Immediate hire.

No button pushers, must be fully competent in CNC Lathe and/or mill operation. Only training that will be provided is familiariztion with machine and the way we do things. Of course, nobody knows everything and help/training will be given in minor areas.

Part time will be considered

Small shop. Plantersville, Navasota area.

No smoking in shop.

We are constantly on the lookout for GOOD CNC Machinists up here in North Texas.
All the good guys have good jobs and usually stay put.

Thanks, been a pretty sketchy year, was pretty slow most of the year but the last month has been crazy. I know it will slow down again, but gotta get it while its lasts.

Thats for sure. Doubt I will find one, but worth a try. Even a part time, after hours guy would help.

And there is the rest of the problem, most of the ones that hit the street recently were either culls or ones that took early retirement packages.

Been busy since Oct but getting pretty overwhelmed with just me and one other full time guy. One of my part time guys that was working a lot moved to Florida so need to get someone in here pretty quick.

I was blessed to be raised around my granddad and dad's machine shop learning the manual side at an early age. It is hard to find someone who actually knows what the lines and numbers are for on the handles... I'm surprised at how many "I've been a machinist for 15 years..." walk in and try to run a right hand drill the wrong direction

Wish they would teach more manual stuff in trade schools.

My dad was a machinist too. I got started on a Monarch EE lathe when I was 12. We had machine shop in HS also.

Good manual machinist are near impossible to find now days.

Heck, a CNC machinist that is good a set up and self sufficient is hard to find. The world is full of button pushers....

My uncle had a machine shop in West Texas, where I was introduced to machining at a young age. I took 3 years of machine shop in high school where we only had manual equipment. I could single point thread on a lathe by the time I was 15. Then I went to TSTI in Waco where they had all manual equipment, and one bench top tiny NC mill that ran off punch tape. We had a semester of NC where we wrote NC code by hand. I have been working in machine shops most of my life. I've been a CNC programmer since 2005 with mostly 5-axis experience using Siemens NX software. I've worked as a contract CNC programmer since 2013 all over the United States, from Washington state to Massachusetts and many places in between. Every shop I've worked at is looking for machinists. We are a dieing breed, the youngsters today don't want to get their hands dirty and learn a trade.

My ads state CNC, so get almost no guys with manual experience. Heck most have little experience even on CNC around here. We are in the heart of oil country and I am still surprised at the number of people that don't know anything about threads and other extremely common oil tool features.

I am seriously worried about the future of the trade/business if we can't get qualified people or find people with the aptitude to train. Or the willingness to work....

And also come in every day......

Observation from someone totally ignorant of the area:
25 $/hr is not going to encourage any young people to enter the field. If they are in as high of demand and require as much skill as this thread makes it seem, why is the pay so low?

And this is the problem. These kids are coming in wanting top $ without having to earn it. They come in having to be trained to do the job, but ***** about the money. Why did they hire in in the first place? Had a kid in his mid to upper 20's that would not work a lick of OT because "They don't pay me enough.". He quit after a couple of months. It took me 40yrs to get to $30 an hour. Nobody wants to earn it anymore.

Just something to think about: A good manual machinist can set up and touch off tools, especially if it's already programmed. It's not a big jump to cnc when the program is already written. Just a thought. I understand it's a temporary job, but showing a manual machinist how to do that may be better than waiting on a cnc guy.

The guy I hired a few weeks ago was primarily a manual guy with a bit of CNC experience. I agree with your assertion, and hired him, he is working out well, which is quite refreshing considering the one before him.....

I hired a kid coming out of that Hodde school over in Brenham some years back. Caught the dude measuring a part with a measuring tape cuz he couldn't find calipers...no **** man, for real. He didn't last long. Pretty much anyone under the age of 25 automatically sucks until they prove otherwise to me.

I don't think OP was looking for a kid out of school. It sounds like he's after an experienced machinist. I just know that if you told me it would take 40-years to make $30/hr I would definitely not be interested in mastering that craft; hard work or not (no offense). So if you want the cream of the crop young men/women to consider your field, the income needs to be higher. Otherwise, you get what you pay for...

I understand your point. But the value/money just isnt there. My former employee made $15k more than me in 2019. And I worked wayyyyy more hrs as the owner. And I run a machine or 2 every day. He was making $30/hr with about 10yrs exp.

Yeah, that didn't come out right. It took me that long just because of the way the pay scale has been over the years. The point is the guy's with just a couple of years experience are coming in wanting the same pay as guys with 30+ years experience.
