Google 'order of operations for mathmatics'.

            Answer

It’s nice to see so many folks looking at it from so many different perspectives. It supports why math ‘problems’ like these exist….to exercise the mind! 😊 I manage a team of engineers and like to challenge them when I can, if it makes ya feel any better most of them did not get it on the first try lol
Is the sky blue? Well, most would say it is but some would argue its not. What would the color blind person say? Blue has been defined in other ways and we go from there....back to this topic however...

For this problem there are some assumptions to be made. Several have stated that the answer is unknown because some characters are undefined. You can make that argument, but following the logic prefaced by the shoes in line 1 we can find a solution. The first line has 3 pairs of shoes. From this we derive that a pair of shoes must equal 20, but there is no value for a standalone shoe. The assumption is that an individual shoe must equal 10, because 1 is a half of a pair (did I lose anyone yet??? If so, youre in the 90% for sure lol). This supports that you, in this case, can add individual symbols even if they have not yet been previously defined. Following this, the MOST accurate answer is 144. See below…thanks for playing! Congrats to those in the 10% group, keep on drinking what youre drinking….its working!

              Boxing Glove = 20

              The last line is:

              One shoe + a man x glasses

Except the man is wearing two shoes, two boxing gloves, and glasses

              So the last line is:

              10 (1/2 of a pair of shoes @ 20) + 67 (man @ 5, pair of shoes @ 20, two boxing gloves @ 20 each, and glasses @ 2) x 2 (glasses)

              10 + 67 x 2 = ?

Order of operations you do the multiplication first.

              10 + 134 = ?

Then the addition and the final answer is:

              144

Sad thing is your kids have word problems on tests that are not much different than this. Not if you can do math, but can you catch all the tricks.
