A few years ago one of the black players raised a fist during the anthem. That, to my knowledge, is the only "protest" I've seen in the NHL.

Yep, only protest they had was locked arms at center ice for both the American and Canadian national anthems to show unity and solidarity.

A 22 year old Orlando Magic player stood for the anthem and is being ridiculed for doing it and his answers. I applaud the young man for not conforming to this ridiculous society.

So my wife and I take a trip up to chiliís for a beer and a bite the other evening and take a seat at the bar. 6 TVs on the wall, one tunes into outdoors (some fox fishing show) which was pretty good I might add, one tv was soccer, another la cross, one ESPN, one hockey. I told my wife this is pretty bad we are relegated to soccer and la cross on 2 of the 6 and the normal racist shi$ on ESPN and no desire to watch a blm marathon on the b-ball screen so we kinda tuned into the hockey and before we knew it we both said hey maybe we can get into this.

Yeah before I moved to Texas, I was a Bruin fan and loved #4 Bobby Orr when he would kill the Rangers, who my older brothers rooted for.

Well they had some guy kneel for it, then played the Canadian anthem where he stood. Didn’t realize racism was such an American problem and we are so inferior to Canada.

Yeah, that ticked me off. He plays for the Minnesota Wild and is a Canadian of philipino descent. Kneel for your own anthem!! The two black players playing in the game didn't kneel. I guess the NHL is just trying to "keep up with the Jones's".

I hope that's the end of it...

Hockey is much more tolerable. Sports have to be recorded on DVR so I can start watching 15min or so after they start and just fast forward until the action has started.

I think baseball did something like a time to kneel before the anthem. Some guys still knelt for the anthem.

I do all of my kneeling in church.

Well it IS hockey.

Maybe the other players can "take care of it" during the course of the game.......Wouldn't THAT be nice to watch?

We are a hockey family. We used to have Stars season tickets until my son started playing. Now with his expenses we watch him play live and Stars on TV. I am kinda torn on this. It is great to to watch now but it will mess up the next year.

They also put a collage of fans from the home team on the big screens. That might be worse than the crowd noise. Oh well. At least they are playing!

They have to have some ďcrowd noiseĒ so the TV cameras donít pick up the on ice back and forth between players. There would not be enough bleeps in the world.

From the Chicago Tribune:

Minnesota’s Matt Dumba became the first NHL player to kneel during the U.S. national anthem when he did so before the opening playoff game between the Oilers and Blackhawks in Edmonton, Alberta.

Dumba knelt at center ice on Saturday while fellow Black players Malcolm Subban of Chicago and Darnell Nurse of Edmonton each stood with a hand on one of his shoulders.

With the message “END RACISM” on the video screens around him, the Wild defenseman made a passionate speech about racial injustice on behalf of the league

Colorado Avalanche scored with 00.1 of a second (not a typo, 1/10th of a second) remaining in the 3rd period to beat St. Louis Blues 2-1. Wow!

No. Colorado had a power play. The first shot went through the St Louis goalie and hit thew post. It bounced right out to the Avalanche player's stick at the top of the goal crease. The goalie never had a chance to react so the net was wide open.

Seguin and Dickinson from the stars and Ryan Reaves and Robin Lehner of the Knights kneeled during the American and Canadian anthems. Done with all of them. They were my two favorite teams.

It was 2 from Dallas, Seguin and Dickinson. Still not right, but you know me....

I was more offended by their 3rd period defense.

Wow. The Stars are on the verge of elimination. They havenít really showed up in this series.

The silver lining, if you can call it that, if they get eliminated is they will go into the 2nd draft lottery and have a chance at the number 1 pick in the 2020 draft. It is the only draft choice up for grabs in this part of the lottery. All the teams that get eliminated in the ďQualifierĒ round have an equal chance...it isnít weighted like the ďnormalĒ or first part of the draft lottery.

2020 NHL DRAFT ORDER

1. ???

2. Los Angeles Kings

3. Ottawa Senators (from San Jose Sharks)

4. Detroit Red Wings

5. Ottawa Senators

6. Anaheim Ducks

7. New Jersey Devils

8. Buffalo

Picks No. 9-15 will be assigned to the other teams that lose the eight qualifier series, in inverse order of their points percentage.

Picks 16-31 will be determined by the results of the playoffs.

Growing up the company my dad worked for had season tickets to the Beaumont Wildcatters. I LOVED going to those games! The seats were on the glass, and we saw a dude get his tooth knocked out right in front of us. I'm not sure why I don't currently watch hockey because I loved it when I was a kid.
