1st Annual MWMRKCT (Memorial Weekend Medina River Kayak Camping Trip) - 2019

This weekend a large contingent of TBHers and some kids got out on the Medina River for a 20 mile kayak trip. We started Saturday around noon in Medina and paddled 12+ miles to our campsite, reaching it around 8:30 that evening. Sunday morning we sprang from our hammocks and/or tents and paddled another 7+ miles to Bandera. It was a fantastic trip with a great group of folks.

The group consisted of Michael, Jeanette, Michael's brother Mark and his wife Monica and their kids Macie and Micah. Les and his wife Colette paddled with us as did Mayor Mary. My son Dane and I rounded out the group of 11. We owned the beautiful Medina for this trip. Casualties included a couple fishing poles, a camera pole along with some bruised and scraped flesh. Small prices to pay for such a wonderful time in the glorious Texas Hill Country.

    Now some pics:

That looks awesome. We just re-located to the Bandera area and I’ve been wondering if it was worth getting a yak/hybrid to float the river with.

Brings back a lot of memories. Used to have a deer lease right in town right across from the dairy Queen. We floated it a few times. Nice pictures and looks like y'all had a great time.

Beautiful. I’m surprised that water wasn’t moving faster.

Looks like a good time for sure. Did you guys use private or public put-in, camp and take out? My kayak group is always looking for new places to go.

Brings back a bunch of memories! Have done that trip 100 times or more. I saw Mary’s picture on FB and instantly knew where they were on the river.

We put in at Patterson Avenue in Medina. Paddled just over 12 miles and camped on the river bed near Panther Hollow (as noted on google). I think Montague Hollow might be a better spot but is just a bit further down stream from Panther Hollow. We then paddled 7+ miles taking out at Bandera City Park.

I have a map i can share if it helps. PM me.
