If you want an educated electorate you can start by removing any and all party affiliations from the ballot. Just names...and no straight party voting. Make people research their candidates and I guarantee:
    1. There will (unfortunately) be much fewer votes (at least for the first few elections)
    2. Elections won't be as tightly split along the 2 party system

Me and you both brotha. It wears me out every single time I hear it, but it does make me laugh when it’s the generation about us making fun of millennials. Who raised us? Nobody seems to want to take the blame for it.

I grew up in the age of participation trophies, but I never once was allowed to keep one. My dad made sure they went away and that i got a little talk every time I received one.

I like this idea, although I don't ever see it happening. I just read a statistic that 75% of Harris County voters straight ticket (of those, 55/45 D/R split).

Also, I personally think that blaming the education system for "brainwashing" students is a bit of a stretch. I'm interested how many folks that believe this actually attended college.

Way too much evidence to the contrary. Reports abound of students' parents clashing with teachers who try to indoctrinate the kids and even give failing grades to those who don't see it their way. Happens from grade school all the way through college. I have grandkids in college and one who is now a school teacher that I hear it from as well. They just keep a low profile in order to get along since they are on the conservative side. Sad that they have to do this but it's real.

I never felt like I was indoctrinated (politically) when I was going through school. I can’t recall even a single time that I felt like someone was preaching to me. Yes, some teachers and professors had views that were different than mine, but that was never an issue. That’s just life?

I’m a millennial and I consider myself a moderate. I vote for the candidate that I feel best represents my community and myself. I believe that both of the parties have & will give us about the same result. The left would get rid of guns about as fast as the right would get rid of abortion. They know those types of issues polarize uninformed, single issue voters and they’re not going to touch them.

I’ve worked and paid taxes under two republican administrations and one democratic administration and I can tell right around zero difference in my daily life. I think millennials are a lot more in tune with sniffing out “fake news” than older generations that really have a hard time differentiating or looking at things without considering the bias.

This seems to be a reasonable idea. Doubt it ever happens though.

                Pivot much?

I’ll tell you how we can pay for the wall, but it’s going to take some giving from you. We set up a couple national registries, one to build the wall. Everyone who wants the wall built can sign up to donate or pay $X amount more in taxes a year to build the wall. The second registry will be for your kind, you sign up to take full responsibility for anyone here or coming here illegally. You fund their housing, schooling, medical, insurance, taxes and any other needs that may arise. I’m willing to pay more for the wall, are you willing to pay for open borders? I’d bet that wall would get built, rust, and rebuilt 3 times before your like minded people pooled enough together to fund 10 illegals.

Just have the Mexicans pay for the wall. Slap a 5% tax on every money wire transfer that goes from the US to Mexico.... 2017 $26B was headed south, 2016 $24B went south...

                    Not with that attitude [emoji16]

Seriously though, I've brought this idea up to a few dozen people spanning a wide political spectrum and every single person seems to think it a reasonable idea. The only problem is our 2 party system would torpedo it in a heart beat...too much money tied up in keeping things divided

So I normally don't weigh in on these things but its my bday and I don't want to work right now.... lol

I am an older Millennial ('85) and I feel like I am surrounded by libs that are my age and younger.

I think the main reason (not all) are just ignorant and get hung up on a few issues that touch them and then they jump on the dem bandwagon. Think about it, most young people have huge school debt, the libs use this and a tactic to lure. Nothing wrong with weed, right, well those old crusty conservative want to tell you, you can't have it.

The dems paint the republicans out to be old money that just gets richer while you struggle and they get all the breaks. SO many buy into this. SO many do not understand that all the promisses from the lib side CANNOT come true without a socialist style government. The problem is MOST cannot describe what a socialist government is. I'm serious.... I have been told its LESS government and more money in MY pocket.

I truly believe this is why so many young are falling into the dem crowd, they just simply do not understand what more government means, what it takes to support handouts. They buy into feel good lip service from the dems and it is a **** shame they cannot see past this and apply simple economics to the BS that is always promised.

Anyhow, back to work I GUESS. Carry on

well we can start with cutting off their foreign aid and using it, along with the other s holes to the south of them that are purging their countries of their derelicts.
it would probably build a few miles of the wall. you reckon?

Your right in much of this. They. Ant understand the economics of it because they have never been told or taught anything about economics....by design. Keeping them ignorant keeps them falling for pure stupidity. Parents are not doing a good enough job teaching their kids, gov. Schools are absolutely not going to or are not allowed to teach these young people.. I work with a lot of 20' and 30 something folks and not one is interested in politics in the least. I always tell them that political decisions will always touch their wallet....they still dont care.

Back in the 2016 Bernie day, I asked a simple question to many of my facebook friends (libs). I asked: "Are you ok with a FIFTY PERCENT income tax?? Because that is what it will take to fund what he promises" Not one response.

And to those that really are ok with that and want everyone equal and free this and that, to each their own, but at least know what the eff you are voting for/stand for.
