Default Pretty Good Read

Been reading a very good book. It's called Empire Of The Summer Moon. By S.C. Gwynne. It's about the Comanche Indians, their brutality, their way of life, and the way they treated their captives. It also involves the Comanches and how they were woven into Texas history.

I have the DVD version. Very interesting and explains a lot. We think that my family native blood was Comanche, but not sure and no way to tell. On the other hand, one of my Williams ancestors was a Ranger Captain from San Saba County and was killed by Comanches in 1861 or 2.

One of my favorite books. Other good books of that type are "The heart of everything that is" (it's about a Souix chief called Red Cloud) and "Killers of the flower moon" (Osage Indians being murdered for their mineral rights)

This book will clear up any notions of romanticism regarding the lives of plains Indians or any other Indians as far as that goes. These folks played for keeps and really got hosed.

Not trying to hijack Phonemans thread but I finished a book a month back entitled The Half Has Not Been Told. Eye opening book regarding slavery. Another book on my list is White Trash. It’s basically telling the story of the class system in America regarding poor whites involved in share cropping etc etc. my mom had the misfortune of being raised in this system. RIP Mom.

You're right. No romantic story lines here. They were cruel and savage b4 settlers entered the picture. What each tribe did to each other was savage and stone age.

Also try The Captured by Scott Zesch. I gave the book you speak of to a friend as a gift. Also visited Pali Duro Canyon after reading it.
