With the cold weather and winter months, the snake was very likely hunting for rats and mice. There's a reason why he was inside the house.

My FIL killed a snake last year in Allen. I wanted to see it, so he took me to the trash can in the alley. I pulled it out by its tail and three mice fell out of it from where it’s head used to be. My only comment was, guess you like mice.
