Big Axis pics....

I've got a substantial herd of axis around my home. I left out of the house this past Sunday and there were 6 huge bucks and probably 20 does in the neighboring pasture next door. Yesterday morning, my wife was leaving for work and this one was walking in the road we live on and jumped the fence. I've seen him a number of times and he makes my hear skip a beat every time I see him.



The other 4 or 5 that I've seen aren't slouches and I'd let the air out of any one of them. This one has been hanging around the back fence for the last several days with a doe. He let me get close enough to get a few pics, but they don't do him justice.

Saw this one next to a high fenced property that I drive by on my way to work this morning. He's been dogging that doe for at least a week. He's been in the same place for a couple of days. This is the first time he's stood still long enough for me to take a picture of him.

Technically, I live in Bandera but yeah there are a bunch of free roaming axis here. I've got more axis than whitetails for sure. The pic of the last one doesn't even come close to giving that buck his due. When he turns his head you can see how long he really is. Made me gasp.

Another good one...

This guy was out the back door of the house the other day. There was one to his left that is much bigger but I couldn't get a good pic of him since he was under a tree and partially hidden. I'm ready to go back after them. The rut has slowed significantly over the last week. I got home last Tuesday and the bucks were having a roaring contest behind the house. Later that evening I watched 8 bucks , including this one and "the monster" one chasing 4 or 5 does around.

I did see this buck and "the monster" out with does this morning on my way to work.
