What is this old tool?

This was posted on a local FB page wanting identification. Any of you guys/gals know what it is?

It was used to pick up ice blocks

Looks too small for carrying ice I believe it is a removable connector not sure what to call it used to connect a strap to a harness or the likes

Could be a log grabber to drag logs with. The tighter the pulling the greater the grabbing force.

Too small to be toting ice blocks.

Using the wood floor as reference this only looks to be a couple of inches maybe.
I’d be leaning towards a nose ring or something along that line

Don't believe its a nose tong. Those would have an enlarged rounded knob on the ends, not a sharp point.
