    Cool season grass

Just finished our house and getting the topsoil spread around and wanting to plant to keep it from being the muddy mess it is right now. Is there anything I can plant now, besides rye grass, to provide ground cover until the spring when I am going to plant some Bermuda. Thanks

Fescue grows good in the winter.

Fescue if you can find it. Whatever you use, make sure to amend soil with compost in spring as winter ground cover absorb alot of nitrogen in soil.

Got some Kentucky 31 fescue and mixing it with a little bit of perennial rye. Will see how that goes. Hope I can get it planted soon while still warm enough to start growing.

Will fescue/rye grow well in areas that get a lot of shade?

Both need about half a day or so of sun. I think the rye will be a little more shade tolerant than the tall fescue, but a fine fescue would be the best bet for more shade.
