    Well shucks.

I was packing my recurve this evening and this guy shows up! Never got within recurve range. Stayed around 25-30 yards I may need a hug. Best buck I've had in front of me in several years. It was awesome to see a deer like that but it would've been better to be skinning him right now.

He is a good one for sure. Hope you can get another chance at getting him.

25-30 does feel like a mile. Practice long, so that if it's all falling in place, eyes/ears/body language you can take that shot. No recommending indiscriminate arrow launching, but it you confidence at distance you'll know when it's right.

You would feel a lot worse if you took the shot, knowing you shouldn’t have, and wounded him. Be proud that you had the discipline to pass. He will be back.

Know how you feel. Did the right thing tho.
First time I went elk hunting, a DIY in New Mexico, we called up a nice bull. I was toting a longbow and my confidence/max range was 24 yards. He showed himself at 28 or 30. My partner, toting a compound and he was deadly with it was about 33-35 but blocked by brush. Went home empty handed but with quite the memory of a first time adventure.
                              Hang in there!
