Default Late for fishing. AGAIN

Some of you know or have heard of my son Clay. I normally speak very highly of the young man. Today make the second time, that we were suppose to go fishing that the little TurrDs been MIA. We were suppose to roll out at 3:30 headed to lake Fairfield. No call, No answer. I'm about ready to disown the boy.

If I had a backup partner I would. I hate fishing by myself. You want to meet me on I45 north?

This started happening with my son when he moved out and got serious about chasing 2 legged deer like Hank Williams Jr sang about.
Don't remember ever standing my old man up but it might have happened.

Look at it this way, simple over sleeping is better than any other alternative. Enjoy the time you guys get together! But donít let him off the hook too easy. Lol.

I donít think I ever stood mine up. But, we never hunted or fished together past the age of 12. He wasnít really into it and lost his left arm in a car wreck when I was 7. And I think being left handed made it difficult for him bc he had to learn how to do everything over again right handed. Fast forward 25 years and I still canít get him to hunt. I try. But he just wonít for what ever reason. Sucks bc I only have a hand full of memories hunting with him as a kid.

It's a 3.5hr diver one way. I tried to get him to go somewhere closer and still salvage the day but he doesn't like that spot. I don't particularly like that spot either, but like I said it wasn't so much about the fish as it was the fishing.

I get that my dad worked a lot when i was younger but we hunted and fished often.
He's been retired 10 years now so we catch a lot of fish and kill a bunch of critters.
He's a fair weather, no mosquitos, not to cold kind of outdoorsman now but thats perfectly fine.

My son use to pop out of bed to go fishing or hunting until he got in high school.. I'll wake him up one time and if he doesn't get up I leave him at home.. He's usually mad when I get back but that's on him.. I'm sure it will get worse when he gets older and moves out..
I never stood my dad up but I have slept in the truck because I had a hangover. Glad he just over slept..

Late to fish because of slackin' oversleepin' and then dictating where y'all will fish after he screwed the pooch?! Time to find a more reliable backup plan for awhile and make him appreciate it. Then you can catch up on those talks.

Worked for me on a couple of fellas.

Sadly, young men don't appreciate fishing time with Dad until they can't do it anymore. I'd give anything to get to fish with my Dad again. Last time was about 20 years ago, and he's been gone for 15 now.

No they don't...and some friends don't either. When I was his age, I'd be up before my Dad or driving down from college to meet him.

I think yo have tried your darnedest Jay, to raise a fine young man. And you have. Every young man experiences a time when he's gotta learn about life. And the what happens when certain choices are made. I know you were looking forward to the time with him. I went through the same with my daughter. But had to realize she was growing up. Yes, it's a let down. And your right, they will come back around.

I'd just let him know you really missed him being there, in a fatherly way. And he should have called or text ya if he knew he was gonna be late or not go.

All we can do is Love them. And let them know we love them once they get to a certain age.

You seem so pleasant, and level headed about the whole thing, canít imagine why he may not hold fishin time in such high regard as you do. Gotta be fun for both, or whatís the good in fishin....just somethin to think about.

When I got to the age that I might stand up my dad to go fishing (I donít think I ever did), 3:30 was a lot closer to going to bed time, than waking up time. Young menís priorities change pretty often, and theyíll end up doing what they want in the end, especially where a she is concerned.

He is out on one of the greatest pursuits of life. some kids stray from their parents more than others as they become adults, doesn't mean they love their parents any less. He will realize how much of a good time could be had fishing with his pops.

Your sarcasm in your opening sentence is unwarranted. Your internet psychology degree doesn't give you the right to judge me.

I think I have a right to be a little ****** off.

I was forking out all the money. Spent $200 the day before at bass pro so everyone world have all the proper baits. Spent 3 hours washing the boat and re-spooling rods.

Maybe he doesn't hold fishing in as high regard as I do, but he told me he would be here and he wasn't. For 3.5 hours I worried he was in a ditch somewhere. I'm a man of my word and I've tried to teach my son to be the same.

I disowned my son for doing the same crap. That will teach him a thing or two.
