I attended a range management workshop this week and one of The speakers was a pig specialist from TAMU. His topic encompassed the pig problem landowners experience which was preaching to the choir but he ended by saying that approval of a hog eradication poison was imminent. Like by the first of the year.

Sodium nitrite mixed with milo and peanut butter had been tried before but rejected because a bunch of song birds had been killed as well as hogs. Well, 4 years elapsed with with intense study and they found removal of the milo solved the by kill of the song birds.

Expect sodium nitrite mixed with peanut butter to be approved for hog eradication soon says the pig expert. We'll see.

I'll be interested to see how this develops. Kinda takes the fun away from shooting them, but we have way more than I could ever shoot. Also, I'd be worried about my cows getting into it.

The peanut butter mixture is presented in a trough with a lid that has a 30 lb. spring to keep other animals from killing them selves. Study revealed a coon can lift 27 lbs.

Buzzards were unaffected by the dead pigs.

Just listened to a podcast that talked about this. "Cal's Week in Review", it's episode 126 and you can start at the 2:00 min mark.
The Sodium Nitrite only harms the pigs as other animals like us and deer have the right chemicals in our blood to deal with it.
