First thanks for doing all of this Robert!
I am curious about the overall lengths of the #1 and #2 prototypes as built, also for the folder what is the folded length? Thanks again! |

Robert,
You said you wouldn’t recommend a 26 Nosler for this build. Does the same go for the 28 Nosler? Looking forward to visiting with you guys on an option for a mountain elk / sheep rifle. I’ve borrowed a custom 7mm STW for a previous hunt and thought the 28 would be similar. Thanks!! |

For anyone looking at #2, I currently am running a 260 ackley improved in a 20” proof sendero. It’s very efficient and is a true short action caliber that can be run in mags very easily (2.825” COAL). If you can find some good factory loaded ammo, you can fireform the ackley cases while you’re breaking in your barrel.
I’m also getting 3,000 fps with 130gr bergers out of mine, so very good velocity for that short of a barrel. *For those considering the 7/08, I’d also highly recommend the ackley improved version for extra horsepower |

Guys remember what this rifle is. Don't ask Robert to make it something its not. This is a great deal on a GREAT rifle. Trust Robert if he says he wouldn't do something. He hates to say no to any of us.
If you want something "special" pay the extra $500-$700 and get a "Custom, One-off" gun. These guns are to be built with GREAT care but need to move along quickly so you can get your guns in time to develop a load before you go hunting. KISS |

For 300WM with 24" barrel, what twist rate would y’all experts recommend would be best for pushing heavier bullets? 1:10?
For the trigger, do we have the choice on choosing straight/curved/pro curved and the option to upgrade to PVD black finish? I think I'll be ready to place my order after figuring those two items out. Last edited by Patton; 02-24-2021 at 10:26 AM. |

Robert Im trying to decide im looking at option 1 this will be a hunting rifle whitetail , Mule deer and Elk im thinking of either 6.5 prc or .280 ai. I will be reloading for either on I get what would be my best choice in your opinion .
Thanks |

Robert i see y'all build 7mm 08s with both 8 and 9 twist barrels. If doing a shorter barrel 18-20" in option 1 and probably don't forsee shooting heavier than 140s or 150s would you recommend the 8 or 9 twist?

I like them both. I don't think you could go wrong with either. The 7mm offers a lot of versatility as far as great hunting bullet selection goes, if you are loading your own.

Went by the stop yesterday for rifle that is already in the works but handling the TBH mock ups may prove to be a dangerous and costly decision--
Notes: -The chassis on #2 is very impressive, balances well and feels amazingly solid given the ultralight weight. I think this will be the ultimate truck/blind/backpack rig, especially with the planned suppressor. A scope of nearly any weight 18-28oz will balance perfectly well. -#1 is just hands down an impressive build-- the balance is perfection for a lightweight hunting rifle- the stock, the action, the barrel (awesome contour btw) fit together perfectly and they really knocked it out of the park and this could be the best set of components yet! I would definitely start looking at the lighter weight end of optics to keep this thing balancing sweet. Lastly- both of these are going to end up as fan favs so I wouldn't hem and haw if you are under consideration! |

Agreed, I handled both of these and agree, they nailed them checking all boxes on these two builds.

If i pull the trigger, it would be a option 1, 20" 7mm 08. So it would be really light. I'm guessing with aluminum rings and a 20ish oz scope it would balance well? I was thinking a vx5 3-15 or the vortex LHT 3-15

Are we able to not have the rail on option 1? Would rather use Hawkins hybrid rings if possible

The shop built Option #1 was in 7/08 as well-- so there ya go! I think aluminum rings or better yet the Hawkins Hybrid lows will fit that VX5 perfectly and save a couple ounces. Quick review on the Vortex LHT-- awesome scope and I like the pull up turret- BUT the reticle is THICK- especially compared to a Leupold- specifically compared to the Leupold Impact 29-- the LHT lines are .2MOA and center dot is .35MOA. Which means the lines are double the .1MOA Leupold lines and the LHT dot is 40% larger than the .25MOA dots in the Impact. BP-- I think they are building on the anTi so the rail can be removed and the Hawkins fit awesome- I'm running them on my anTi 6cm with a VX6HD 3-18x50 |

I'm building a 7 SAUM cut for 180 vlds so it's on a long action. Vx6hd 3-18 at 23 ounces so about the same as the vx5. Could save some weight here but there's a long range performance trade-off plus I already have the scope. For the 7-08, I'd take a hard look at the 2-12 Vx6hd. If I was after all out weight savings I'd go this route and would have built a short action Sammi spec reamer vs the long throat. 20 moa rail and hawkins rings. Could save 2-3 ounces by ditching the rail and going talley. I'm estimating 8.5-9 pounds scoped with suppressor and bipod. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk |

Here's a good deal on a vx6hd 3-18. I'll be using this scope with the TMOA reticle.
The impact 29 is a little busy but is a great reticle. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1018308168 Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk |

I need some help deciding on a caliber. Thought I had my mind made up on 300 PRC, but kinda second guessing that.
Interested in 300 prc, 6.5 prc, and the .280 ai. Always wanted a 30 caliber rifle to sling some heavier bullets, but don’t know if I can justify the 300 prc.. mostly shooting whitetail, mule deer, and hogs. I already have .243, 6.5 Grendel, .270 Win, and 7mm Mauser. Any suggestions??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I went with a 30 nosler a couple years ago and built what's turned into the maverick rifle. It's a ballistic twin to the 300 prc but lacks the marketing genius of hornady. The 30 nosler is really underrated round. Mine is running the 230 berger at 2975 and .5moa to 600. Easy to load for with excellent brass made by adg norma and nosler. Any of the 3 mentioned would be a winner in the 30 cal. The 280AI would be another great choice, I nearly went that route but went with the 7 saum which again very similar to the ai in performance.
