I asked and was told they didn't do custom mounts. They only sell on ebay. That was a few years ago so that might have changed. Once I found that out I just had the hide tanned as I knew I'd be disappointed in everything else.

I.have a bad bobcat mount. The guy that did it was actually pretty good but I shot the cat from about 15 feet with a shotgun so he had to use a smaller form. That made it look bad.

I have a couple mounted and the only one that is decent is the one that we have way up on a mantle standing looking down at you. The mouth is tucked under a little and hard to see. Majors did it. Looks great. Then the others are not so good. I guess if you hide the mouth some way it helps. Maybe with a animal(rabbit, quail, etc) in its mouth look more realistic. Walking or standing seems better IMO. Laying down seems tough to do.

Wet or not, there is nothing natural about the way that cat's face looks. Sorry for the results you got on that one.

The best predator work I've seen is done by Mark Cotour at God's Creation Taxidermy. He does really great work. I've been in his shop and seen it and have seen several guys on TBH post their cats that he's done. They always look amazing. I should be getting my cat and fox back from him in the next 4-5 weeks. I can't wait.

I think if I kill another one I'm just gonna have my taxi do it sleeping. Problem solved. Although he does great work on cats IMO.. I'll post of few of his up next.

I've determined something. When I was in High School, I was really good at drawing realistic looking objects and cartoon people but I could not for the life of me, draw people realistically. I was considered "good" at art. Now I had a classmate who was great at art. He could draw people with incredible detail.

I have always have had the impression that when it comes to taxidermy, there is an art to it to make the final product look life like. We all know what it should look like... but it takes some extreme artistic talent to actually "see it" and make those subtle lines align to make it look real instead of like a cartoon.

Here is one I shot year before last. I chose this stance/pose incase it turned out jacked up like I had seen all too much. (If the face was way off I would be able to hide it a bit with it "walking sideways" against the wall.) It turned out good and I'm happy with it. I will try to get another pic of his face when I get home if I remember.
