    Arrow weight increase

How much will a roughly 80gr increase in arrow weight slow it down? Shooting 300fps with 410gr and thinking of going to 490-500 range.

If you are getting a legit 300 FPS with your current setup I would definitely make the jump in weight. The only way to know for sure is to build one and send it through a chrono but I would say around 265 depending on the bow. Again, if you are getting mid 260’s with a 500 grain arrow that is a formidable payload. I wouldn’t worry too much about the speed loss, it’s a hell of a setup. 500 is what I recommend to most of my customers for NA game, it’s a great compromise between trajectory and lethality.

A few years ago, I went from 400 grain arrow to 592. I only lost 35 fps. I would think you will loose about half that with your arrow weight increase.

From what I’ve always heard that you won’t lose that much FPS jumping the weight. Also I can’t remember who made the video but they talk about the difference from like 285 to 300 is so minimal that it would be so hard for an animal to jump that string from that little of a difference. There’s also an arrow ballistics calculator that you can google I believe

                410*300^2/450400= 81.93ke
                sqrt((450400*81.93)/490)=274fps
                sqrt((450400*81.93)/550)=259fps*1.5%=262fps
