            Old wives tales/farmers almanac stuff. Cut into it and see the pattern you get. Can't remember what they mean though.

                  Fork- Mild winter
                  Spoon- Cold with lots of precipitation
                  Knife- Bitter cold, icy winter
                  A quick internet search has shown mostly Spoon for this year.
