So my is less than a week short of being 9 years old. He has been hunting with me for about 3-4 years now. When he was little he would ask to go and I said sure.
He got serious about wanting to kill something about 2 years ago. We tried at my parents place in Falls county, but couldn't get anything to cooperate. We have been out to Uvalde with a friend for 2 years trying to get blood on his face with anything, still no luck.
So this year we had an opportunity to get on a lease with some family down in Duvall county---long haul from baseball, basketball, and livestock showing this boy does in Harris county.
Our first trip was in mid November. Saw a couple of things to shoot but just didn't work out for him. Instead he told me to shoot a doe the day before we left.
Fast forward to yesterday, we make it back down here Sunday in time for the evening hunt. All we saw was two small does, he said he didn't want to shoot a baby! Monday morning same thing, so Monday evening we swapped stands.
Well lets just say it paid off!! He shot him with a .243 at roughly 100 yards. knocked him down and he did a barrel roll and made it about 7 yards and expired. It was awesome!
