Making fishing lures

I'm posting these for Critter69. His son makes these by carving a wood master and using it to make a mold. Then he casts them in resin puts them together and paints them. These two are completed.

Caught a few small ones at the pond. A white fluke I make has been the best lately. The bigger ones are avoiding me.

I'm working on a new type lure. It's a work in progress still. It's a slow sinking twitch bait like a Mirrodine. These are the prototypes. I weighted and sealed them to check the sink rate and action. I took them to Sargent and threw them under the lights and got whacked by a decent trout (of coarse I missed it). I made patterns and weight ratios for buoyancy. I'm working on paint now.

Nice shape and already gets fish attention! Post up again when you finish painting, always enjoy seeing your lure creations.

I tried a few different finishes this evening and I'm not happy with the outcome. First I used a couple different foils to get some flash while fishing the lights. I liked the out come until I used a spray on lacquer that seemed to dull the foil. I'm being picky but the gold foil didn't act right when I did a mid coat of epoxy. I'm going to see if the finish clears up as it dries, if not I'll still fish it. Trying different things sometimes teaches hard lessons. Lol

I went for a silver foil sides with a "hot head". The chrome foil was very flashy till the lacquer. I used it instead of epoxy because I didn't want to add too much weight and effect the sink rate. I'll see how it looks in the morning, I'll bet they'll still get em

Tried a new way to inject lures. It creates a swirl type effect. It's pretty neat the way it turns out. I only tried it on some craws.

I do but I haven't posted any pictures of any of them. I use them to catch reds in the marsh mostly so I usually just make white ones, so I can see them.

These have been the deal on the redfish lately. They feel almost like a spinner bait when you reel it in, it has so much thump. They have really liked the ol black and white.

Dadgum you’re getting it down brother! Gotta make some 4” baits pretty soon. I have done any big open pours yet. This 4” will be my first round. Probably gonna start simple with one color then two. Hoping to do a white ish with big black flake belly, chartreuse stripe with a black and silver flake too. Gonna try to dot it up front as well. Worlds worst makes me jealous haha. He’s an artist and you’re on the way.

Zac a couple things I learned the hard way. Pour it on a hot plate. On the 4" keep it around 250 degrees. It will blend the layers better but not melt the dot. Pour the blood line (center color) very thin, it looks a lot better. Use a heat gun to get the bubbles out between layers. On the 6" I keep the hot plate around 325 degrees. Post a pic when your done, I'd love to see em.

Kevin, I cannot State how cool that lure is. That pattern is sure to become a Lone Star among your many creations!

I spent some time in the garage today working on some new lures. I got a couple new molds I wanted to try. First is a new flat worm. I've been trying to work up a new color that's a translucent blue and I finally settled on this one.

I used it to do a Sexy Shad paddle tail in a mold I made out of resin.

I also made a few jerk baits.

And I made some more croakers. These are very time consuming but worth it in the end I think. I did some 6", 5" and 4". I did a jerk bait also. I pour clear plastic into the mold and dump it out, then paint the stripes, gold and silver. It creates a really cool effect.
